2020-21 Hunting Season

This late in the season , one should not hunt deer like its bow season. Its more about run and gun. Atleast that has worked for me. Usually after a bump, deer give me a 60-70 yard shot that I need to take with in 2-3 seconds.
I have also walked past deer that didnt move and i would keep walking, mount the gun near a tree for support , turn and shoot

That’s what I’ve been trying. My property is very hard to do that through. Lots of thick thick brush with rose bushes. There’s some open areas that are not on my property but I have permission to hunt those areas. The landowner was hunting those this weekend though so I missed out a bit. I’m switching to my shotgun this weekend and going to walk all the logging roads. I have lots of attention in that one are. The deer didn’t seem spooked. Not much action where I’m at.

They're starting to yard up and when you see one you may see ten! Thats twenty eyes and twenty ears doing constant surveillance, tough to beat. Still a few roamer's out there alone or in pairs though.

During firearms season I generally stay in stand for the 1st hour or so of light then still hunt. I love still hunting windfalls

You sound like me. I can sit for about two hours but that’s it. Maybe three if there’s other activity like birds and stuff around.

2 hours is torturous to me,I dont make more than half hour and thats sitting to eat.Usually 10-15 mins or so.When I was younger I used to cover a couple miles.The last few years age and cigarettes have been catching up to me.I dont go nearly as far as I used to.

There’s a state WMA next year I want to hit pretty hard it has a nice ridge with a creek running down the middle and a field with high grass on the other side. I want to split the difference and watch both sides while walking it.

Had a nice little 4 point in my back yard this morning. My 7 year old asked if I could shoot it. While technically yes-ish, shooting a deer out the window at 7am might piss the neighbors off a bit.

I certainly wouldn’t then without asking them. A quick call to the cops is way more trouble than it’s worth.
I hunted a quick little spot close to my house. Not the best but it’s a paved path in a WMA that I can cover in about an hour. I see deer there sometimes. No deer this time and driving back a field in my town there was a huge 8 pt’er 20-30 feet from the road. Could have shot it with my pistol.

I’d pop a woodchuck with a .22 from the house, but my slug gun sounds like a canon compared to that. Not a good way to make friends in the neighborhood.

Likely not a good way. I feel your pain though. I can’t even shoot a squirrel where I’m at.

I live in a unique place; a housing development in the country. It’s actually kind of random, but worked out perfectly as a compromise between what my wife and I were looking for.

Now I just need those blasted woodchucks to move away from the shed a bit.

Get a live trap and bait it with apples and carrots and you’ll catch them quickly.

I’m a proud, happy Dad! My daughter punched her tag on the last evening of northern tier season.
It’s her first deer ever (and her first year hunting) and I couldn’t be prouder!
She’s been hunting her tail off all season and everything finally came together.




I bought her a hunting knife at the beginning of season, hoping to have a chance to give it to her when she got her first deer.
I think she was as excited about the knife as she was the deer.




It was the perfect way to close out the 2020 northern season.

Its great to see some of the younger generation keeping the tradition going.Not enough kids have any interest.My 2 sons although being avid fishermen,campers, hikers and target shooters have little or no interest in hunting.Nice deer, nice knife....great kid.

That’s how my kids are. My son wanted to turkey hunt but hates shotguns and the other guy just loves animals and won’t hurt them. I get that side and respect it. He also will eat anything I shoot but just loves his critters.

I forget now how many years ago my daughter got her first deer, a doe. She posed with it so I could take a picture. I picked up the brass from the round she used, a 243. I polished the brass and had it engraved with her name, the date, and"First Deer". I had the cell phone pic made into a 5x7 and framed. Gave them to her for Christmas

I saved the brass case. I mess around with antler mounts a bit.
I’m going to mount my daughter’s antlers with the brass case.

My oldest loves animals but can’t wait to go hunting.

Seeing doe but still no bucks. Unfortunately I'm not allowed to shoot doe here.

I haven't seen any chasing this year. Just a slow ass year.
