Everything is coming along now. The onions I think are going to be a bust. I might just keep them in the ground and see if they take next year. The peppers are catching up but still have a ways to go. The tomatoes seem to be the star and are coming along very nicely.

Yes so the flowers probably didn’t get pollinated because of the rain. I get that in spring with my fruit trees if it’s really wet or cold. The bees don’t come out. That’s sucks.

Circle of life and food chain. At least you can get yours back. All that eats my shit is robins and squirrels. I live in the city so shooting the squirrels is a no no and they would probably taste gross since they eat garbage too.

We're throwing out a bunch of tomatoes that are rotting on the vine. There were too many tomatoes so there are a bunch in pots on the deck. My wife thinks that we just can't get the watering right for the potted ones due to the frequent rain. Raised beds are definitely doing better.

Same here. Little cherry tomatoes go from unripe to exploding red.

Last year and the year before, we used miracle Gro connected to the garden hose. Made a huge difference. I finally started using it in water cans this year, making a big difference.

Do you have drainage holes in the bottom? Did you use soil you made or potting soil? Potting soil should make it about impossible to overwater.
too much rain can cause splitting in some fruits and tomatoes are one of them.

We weren’t going to be in PA much this summer, so I tried to plant some
things in NJ instead. Not much luck.
My husband wouldn’t let me put a big raised bed on the property line because he said it would look stupid. So I’ve got a narrow section next to the house.
Damned chipmunks have been eating every single squash and zucchini blossom. I tried to put 1/2” wire around everything, but then the tomatoes got too tall. They’re smashed up against the top of the enclosure.
I tried spinach, but only got a small handful of tiny leaves. Cucumbers in a pot on the deck had been doing great, then all of a sudden the leaves started to turn yellow and the blossoms dried up. Same watering as if been doing. Maybe the cold?
Got a few small carrots, scallions and herbs in pots that did okay. Green beans are the one thing I always have good success with. Tried snap peas, and they started off well, then died completely before producing more than three pods.
I would post a picture, but we’re puppy-sitting and he just fell asleep. I don’t want to wake him. LOL.

I’ve got a steady supply of grape tomatoes ripening daily but the larger tomatoes are tricky this year. They are growing so big they either fall off the vine or break the vine and start dying. I’ve gone through and added supports for the large tomatoes. I finally have a few larger tomatoes that will be ready to eat in a few days.

I finally got a big pink Berkeley tomato that didn't start to rot on the plant. Never grew these before. Looking forward to trying it tomorrow. There were some volunteer plants I thought were cucumber that weren't getting pollinated. Now they appear to be pumpkins or something I guess. If I don't eat them the chickens will.

I’ve got spaghetti squash, zucchini and cucumbers that are producing like crazy! Grape tomatoes are starting to come on strong and the beef steak tomatoes will be ripe very soon. My san marzano tomatoes are lagging behind this year but look good and hearty. All my berry plants did well in the beginning but suffered towards the end with all the damn rain and lack of sun in July. Blue berries are still doing ok though. I’m growing several varieties of Hot peppers again this year that are also starting to do real well. ( I make my own hot sauce and pickle the rest)

sugar babies and melons are a little disappointing size isn’t great at all 9 bins so far picking every other day
this is the second planting of zucchini. First one gave me 915 cases in just over 4 weeks once this planting started kicking off I nixed the first and ploughed it up.
these are finally producing about 30 cases ever other day. It’ll go to 60 in about a week
this tomato field has really been a struggle with disease management. The weather hasn’t made it easy to grow a nice crop. That said I think it’s gonna make anyhow.

Farmers don't get enough appreciation.
I'd sure like one of those watermelons about now...funny story: I grew up in Florida and Citron Melons grew wild in the Orange Groves and into the shoulder of the Road...every once in a while we'd see a Car from "up North" pull off the road and a couple people would run over and snatch up those Citrons thinking them to be watermelons....I'd love to see their faces when they cut 'em open.

they probably drop that many tomatoes on the ground when they make a turn with the mechanical harvester.
My teen years were spent in the greater Orlando area where A. Duda Farms grew everything....unimaginable how many thousands of acres they grew. even today its not unusual to see an open top semi-trailer heaping over the top with celery or whatever they were picking.

There are a few very large farms in NYS as well. A few are 5,000-7,500+ Acres.

I just harvested a bunch of blackberries and they are so sour they are not even edible. It’s been like this in years past so I netted them and let them ripen further and it’s worse. They are terrible. I like sour but these are worse than eating a lemon. I think I will remove the bushes they are so bad.

I do t have enough to do that yet. Only a bowl or two here and there. Not sure if I’ll keep them if people don’t like them. I’ll grow something else or let the raspberries take over that section. My blueberries did well so maybe a few more of them.

The wife only wanted cherry /grape tomatoes, so there’s not much that can be made with them. I went above her wishes and got some beefsteak, so if I have enough, maybe I can do something with them.
I had to stake up my cages because they all fell over on vacation. I think next year I’m getting the 3-sided cages. They seem to be holding up better.
