I’ve got some big plans this year. My plans and my wife’s plans might differ slightly. She will win not because she’s right but likely because I’ll be too tired to do all I want or I’m short on money. Spring is when I’m busiest with landscaping and I make 75% of my money late April to early July.

at my old house, i had a lot of issues with rodents, rabbits and squirrels.
not sure what kind of critters the new place will bring in.
need advise [come summer] from some you 'pro gardeners' on how to secure the garden, besides shooting them.

The only problem I have had is rabbits. I tried a few things but ended up with a sniper hide and a pellet rifle, problem solved. We were over run with them.

my tomatoes were getting ravaged by squirrels last year. I had to enclosed my raised bed. I used a couple sticks of pvc pipe and chicken wire. I think there is pics in the old thread.

we don’t bother anymore with seeds for the more “common” stuff, we go after what would cost us dearly if it was actually at a farmers market or in the supermarket. Otherwise, we just go to the local farms for the onions, carrots, etc. and now with the freeze dryer, we will be buying in bulk from the local farms.

We bought a local small store out of seeds this November.
We have probably 300 packets.
Still, I think we might start a few transplants soon. I miss doing weird heirloom tomatoes.
I told my girlfriend that you only get about 3 months off from a garden. Nov-jan. Come February, transplants need to start.

I would have to look in my book, but I think peppers and onions start inside this month. Tomatoes start in March.

I started a little early. Can't wait anymore. I am planning on everything disappearing from the garden centers again this year too. I bought a ton of seeds already, and want to get bulk compost delivered. This will be the biggest garden we have done yet. Most of the fruit trees should have fruit for the first time this year, and hopefully I can keep the squirrels and birds away from them. Bought some grape vines, and may add a few more blueberry bushes. I just wish it was all on a bigger property in TN.
Going to try and plant an entrepreneurial seed and convince the kids to grow a bunch of plants to sell in the spring.

I used to start and maintain my own heirloom lines.
I had 100% germ almost. Tomatoes were easy. Just squirter their snot on a paper towel.
We just found seeds i froze 9 years ago. I'm going to do a test on them.

I 've got my order in to Stark already for this year. Two Columnar apple trees, Two Everbearing Mulberry trees and 25 Ozark Beauty bareroot strawberry plants.
I like to try and plant fruit trees and bushes every couple of years. So far I have a multi grafted apple tree that fruits pretty well, a Reliance peach tree that fruited for the first time last year, a large patch of mountain cap black berries, three blueberry bushes that produce real well and raspberries that have been established for several years now. Oh, and one Very large vining Kiwi berry plant that should yield it's fruit this year !
My three grand kids are veracious berry eaters! We will typically have enough to last us through most of the winter ,individually frozen and vacuum sealed. Except for tomatoes and a couple of other vegetables most of what we grow is consumed through out the mid summer and fall.

I wish I had more space for gardens and greenhouse's. That is a big part of the TN long term plan, so something to look forward to at least.
