It’s weird how so many people mock 22LR for defense yet I’ve never met anybody that was ok with being shot by it. 22LR offers low recoil so you can put multiple follow up shots on target. Accuracy and shot placement trump everything else. Unless you hit a vital organ there is no 1 shot man stopping pistol round. My only complaint with 22 LR is that it is not always as reliable as a center fire rounds.
I mean I'm not going to volunteer to get shot with a pellet gun either, but I understand your argument

If I'm ever in a knife fight, I'll use a paring knife if it's all that's available.
But I'd rather have a katana....
.22lr is kinda like that.
Nobody's going to volunteer to be stabbed with a paring knife either, but if you're in the kitchen and reaching for a weapon it's probably not the first choice.

well Israel and Russia have both issued and used 22LR weapons. They both have 22LR in urban environments for close range sniper work (100 yards or lessand where over penetration is a concern. The Russians use an SBR with suppressor version of the Biathlon 7-2 rifle, and The Israelis use a 10/22. The Israelis originally selected the 10/22 as a non lethal solution but later pulled back on its use as it was found to be too lethal. The Israelis have also used 22LR in their sky Marshall program.

i would in no way dismiss the effectiveness and lethality of 22LR. If I was in a situation where I had to quickly aim and fire as many rounds as accurately as possible on target, without worry of over penetration, it’s hard to beat 22LR. In no way am I saying that 22LR is the perfect self defense round, I am merely saying that one should not dismiss it or disregard those who do choose to select it as their choice of self defense round.

A friend of mine got hit with three .22 rounds in the legs and ass , made holes the size of a quarter, He ran about 25 yards and passed out from the bleeding , He was a big boy,250-260 no fat. football player big, tried out for the Giants.

I understand it's not the first choice for a lot of us, but I never dimiss it for people who are recoil or noise shy. I wouldn't hesitate if its all I had either.
I do think "gun people" tend to over caliber.
.308 when 5.56 would work just as well.
12 guage when you shoot better and faster with 20. (Most shoot instructors say the same thing)
I know for me, I'm a bigger guy here, the less recoil the faster I am and getting back on target or staying on target. I know in a fight I would be better with a 5.56 and a 20 guage personally. Thats why I have a 20 gauge 18" barrel shotgun.
You can only make something so dead.
