I would have to ask him. We talked about WAY too many models and options and it got lost in my memory. He actually has 2 different models. I might end up putting some money into my savage and buy some more accessories before the Begara purchase. I also think I will need to switch up my loads for the 308.
I might be boring but I tend to avoid fashions and stick to the most popular choices specially in a so nicelly inproved R700 action like the Bergara.
You are a slightly odd duck aren't you? I only mention the Tikkas because the CTR and HMR cost the same and the Tikka has been around a long time and has a good reputation. One thing I do like about the CTR is it has the integral M1919 rail which is something I would have to add to the HMR and as you point out needs care to install right. Magazines are far more expensive though.
The bergara is based on remington 700 blueprint but substantuslly improved in features and quality. Bergara, while doesnt do much marketing and it is not so well known in the US, it has root from a centuries old lineage of steel and firearms makers from the north of Spain. The fact that they decided to invest heavily in the US and started a manufacturing plant in GA and chose the R700 blueprint for a baseline is no accident. Their triggers are Timmey and they partnered with Shilen to make the best possible barrels anyone can make.
Okay, you sold me. I read some have had issues with gloppy paint messing with the bedding in the HMR stock. But since I will prolly stick it in the GRS berserk stock at some point it prolly doesn't matter one way or the other.
