Um, ok so he was able to "take down" "quickly and effectively" 3 senior citizen women, a 52 year old man, and a teenage girl with 22LR. Based on that I'm not going to decide to use it as a defensive caliber unless I have no choice. You can effectively kill a person with a pencil to the jugular, but it'd be better to use something else.

I'm not saying that certain calibers cannot kill. They all can if they reach vitals. A .22lr can kill a lion on a safari but it isn't ideal. It wouldn't be ideal either for an armed guard at a nuclear power plant to be armed with a Ruger LCP in .380. Or for a guy working a vehicle checkpoint to be armed with a .25 ACP.
Let's not get crazy here. Guys who wear lab coats employed by the FBI are much more knowledgeable than you when it comes to ballistics on what works through what barrier.

I didn't make any recommendations to you or anyone else to use 22lr or any other specific caliber. I was sharing an example of something people often disregard as ineffective even though it was. I guess it doesn't count because the people were of a specific classification though?

No I get your point. I'm just saying they were softer targets. No offense meant, I just think analyzing caliber performance has its place in choosing the best gun option for one's self.

Exactly. That .22, may not have made it to vitals on a fat person or a bodybuilder shot through the arm into the chest. Or perhaps a guy returning fire from behind an aluminum food display.

"ideal" is too subjective of a term when considering the immense variables with the shooter, firearm, and the victim themselves. There are expectations and standards set for a broad spectrum of calibers for firearms.

My thoughts were always the same. I think we could all go around in a circle about the obvious facts. Honestly though, my emphasis was more focused on a different comment. When personal feelings outweigh logic, and bold incorrect statements are made that lack reasoning, that's what feeds other people into believing disinformation, and it spreads like wildfires.

Yeah, I heard the Swat teams and secret service are considering the blackout and the 22LR
for all their tactical needs.
Seriously, the 22LR and many other cartridges including some modern airguns are lethal.
I think the idea is to have a cartridge that is pretty deadly under any circumstances regardless
of distance, barrier and other factors.
It is like a insurance policy, a good one might save your azz.
Of course in specific and controlled scenarios the 22LR might be perfect.
Don't bring a 300 winmag to kill a rabit the same way that you don't bring a 22LR to clean a
cartel's safe house.

I recall a thread a few years back in one of the hunting forums of a guy who brought an AK74 into big bear territory.
He was charged by a large brown bear and had to empty the magazine (30 rounds of 5.45) to save his life.
He saved his butt that was good but also made a colander of a nice animal.
He posted pictures and took a lot of heat from hunters, conservationists, shooters and all other members.
The "no so bad" cartrige was totally inadequate for the situation. Better than nothing? yes.
But I am sure he is not going to try that weekend-warrior-going-rambo adventure ever again.
