.45 ammo even Will might not hate

I have been trying out some of the faster .45 semi auto offerings. These are my two favorites. I'm going to hunt with a 1911 next season.

.450 SMC

The 160 Gr barnes copper at 1350 FPS (648 ft lbs) is my new ccw load.

I also like the 185 gr bonded HP also at 1350 (750 ft lbs) but the recoil is a bit much for carry use in my opinion.

My hunting load will be the 255 gr swc hard cast at 1030 fps.

These are all by double tap. They are the only company making the 450 SMC at this time. The gun still shoots .45 acp just fine.

More proof that the .45 caliber handgun is the best most versatile option ever! (yes I'm stirring the pot) even more so in states that only allow 10 round mags for their subjects

I've heard that rumor before too. Technically it stands for Short Magnum Cartridge , but there's an old forum story that supposedly someone working at Triton (The short lived company that tried to develop and sell the .450SMC) was a retired Marine with a dirty mouth.
Nobody knows the origin of the story/rumor now, or if there's any truth to it, but it'll forever be 'gun forum lore'.

EDIT: Back around 20 years ago, my roommates and I at the time had a bunch of computers hooked up together and would go online to play some of the early incarnations of online first person shooters. (Unreal Tournament and Medal Of Honor were our big ones) We were pretty good at them, and called ourselves SMB Clan. It was a more innocent time back then, and people would always assume it stood for Super Mario Bros.

They are not the same. The smc uses a small magnum rifle primer for a smaller primer pocket. That means a stronger case. It’s a .308 rifle case cut down. The ballistics are similar to the super but the cases are quite a bit different.

The 160gr feel like shooting a normal 45 plus p sd. In a steel 1911 they are very manageable. So guys are loading these really hot. I’m sticking to the factory loads. They are plenty warm.

If I was carrying a .45 ACP, this would be the load. 1420 fps in the +P variety. They also have them in 200 gr anything goes 1000 fps.
