.50 bmg?

Working on that for myself actually. Need a pickup though. Waiting for the ranger to come out and see if its worth it. By then ill be in my last year of school and hopefully making a livable salary so i can start gwtting ready to move out of this state. Just gotta wait on the gf to finish up then im gone.

As far as your car situation are you really just looking for a flat out beater or you looking for a play thing when you're off duty?

Next up is the production class single shot bolt rifle.
Barrett 99, AR50 (My favorite) and Steyr HS.50.
There are plenty of them available for sale, they are proven reliable and they are good enough out of the box to hunt & compete with at longer ranges.
However, the AR50 is the only manufacturer that has a left hand option, that's why it's my favorite.
All above can be worked on and have aftermarket parts available to make them even more accurate.
Of course that means more money and an even bigger bank account !!!
There's a pattern forming.

Barrett 95, Cobb/ Bushmaster and McMillan or some type of McMillan clone.
Most of these are all set up for reaching out there and have a price tag to match that.
Cobb is the cheapest of the bunch and also has a left hand bolt. I like that.
I've shot all of them and even built a Tac 50 that was so accurate, that I had to sell it.
I really sold it because it was an evil right hand rifle and I got an offer I couldn't refuse.
These rifles are for the shooter that has been really bitten by the 50 Bmg bug, as magazines start out at $200 Apc and that's the cheapest accessory you'll find.
More Money, if you want to play !!!
I won't go into Semi auto rifles, unless your moving to a free state and can own one, and have more money to burn at a quicker pace ?
The rifle choice is only the start in dealing with large calibers.
50Bmg recoil rated Optics, Ammo $$$ and reloading equipment & components are a whole other area that will drain your wallet faster than an Vegas Ho.

As your fatuation grows, Next in line price wise, would be a shell holder single shot bolt rifle.
It would need to be registered and IMHO are good for comp and plinking.
Reloading the rifle is a PIA in a hurried situation.
I own an OLR (only long range) rifle from when they first came out.
They even made it with a left hand cheek pc.
Got it for $800 shipped, I couldn't pass it up.
McMillan and other copy cat manufacturers also put out shell holders and of course there's the famous LAR grizzly.
All work good, but there are better options available, for just a few more dollars !
Hence the need for a bigger bank account.

Can you recommend any 50bmg mag-fed bolt action uppers that mate to an AR lower, yet still are MOA accurate?

As far as 50bmg accuracy, I and my 50 cal friends have done very well with the 50 cal bolt rifles we've built.
One friends light class rifle shoots .995" 5 shot groups at 100 yards and a 3-5/8", 5 shot group at 1K.
You put the time and love into building anything, it'll show in the end.
Still, I love letting my 50bmg semi auto do what it does best, and that's blow big freaking holes in things and take trees down.
I try to make sure the tree rats don't make it out alive.
Like with any firearm sale, you would need to fill out a 4473 form and do a background check when purchasing a firearm at a gun store.
There are no exemptions made for 50bmg rifles.

Given a scope with 80 MOA of elevation adjustment, is the 20 MOA scope mount prefered? Or the 40 MOA mount?

I've never heard of the McCutchen Upper till your post. It looks like a solid upper, but I can't comment on it's quality. I'll ask around.
My 50bmg's all have 20 moa bases.
Unless you have a scope that has minimul internal MOA adjustment, a 20 moa is all that's needed to get out to 1,000 yards with std velocity ammunition.
With low velocity ammo, a 40 moa base or a scope with more internal moa will be necessary.
You also have to make sure that a scopes advertised moa claim is at it's highest magnification setting( the X power your going to use when reaching out there), not at it's mid range power setting.
A lot of scope manufacturers claim big moa numbers, but don't deliver.
You get what you pay for.

Is 3.25 inches eye relief enough in your experience? The barrelled upper is 19lbs plus bipod, stock, lower and 34oz scope... estimate total 25lb approx.

I shot a Serbu bfg 50 with a scope that had 3.5-4.25 eye relief. Didn’t come close to my eye.

I only read one bad review about zel. They put the wrong size muzzle brake on someone’s upper. Blew the brake apart but no personal injury. Other than that, I have seen nothing but good. But for the money I would pick up a serbu Bfg-50. But those are single shots.

I agree, the Serbu is outstanding. Would love the BFG50A, truly.

But for me, the only thing better than a ghost AR is a ghost AR in .50 BMG.

That’s my thought also. Buy a upper and bypass the ffl. Last time I checked with zel custom, I don’t think they were taking new orders. I am still on the fence on trusting a ar lower with a 50 bmg upper. I don’t recall ever seeing a lower fail.

I asked around about the McCutchen upper and found one shooter that sent their old Zel in for the bolt safety mods and a fore stock upgrade.
Said it's still a good shooter and the bolt mod machine work was top notch.
Haven't heard from anyone that's bought an actual McCutchen upper yet though.
Speaking of the Serbu BFG50A, I think I have the only NY legal fixed mag semi auto BFG50A that exists.
I've done a few modifications to it and it's the most accurate and least recoiling semi auto I've had the pleasure of shooting so far.
I still think the M82/M107 is the most reliable semi 50 out there though, and if I could've made mine SAFE act compliant, I would still have it to this day, along with a CQ upper conversion.
