Marine Cpl
.577 Tyrannosaur.
Lol.
Not sure what you mean by they?
BUT
The whole thing started when a pretty high end door kicker wanted to make his Glock well better (really just glossing over the whole concept) and turn it into an real fighting gun. At the time he didnt want anyone other than close friends to know his actual name so he I guess went by "Roland".
Well his concept was starting to get shared over message boards and his buddies at Primary Secondary really liked the idea and started to embrace it, one of which (not sure who he is, but he just did a YouTube video on this) dubbed the gun the "Roland Special"
Since then the dudes actual name has come out, he did a "pod cast" on YouTube with Primary and Secondary talking about the idea. And as for the compensator he specifically said he killed up KKM and asked them to make it because fuck it I already have a x300 in my pants and if all it does is keep it clean when shooting than it's worth it
Damn you really go out of your way to make everyone think you're a cunt don't you? Then knock yourself out. I'm sure you have a close personal relationship with the "regulars" and know exactly what they think each and every minute.
Now, "keyboard warrior" splain' to me why I should give a rat's hind end ?
Apart that unlike me, you don't own any suppressed or comped weapons of any kind (unless you're a criminal), in other words you can only repeat back what some one in a free state says.

I guess I think its funny that a guy builds an open class gun and it gets a special name. I dont think its a bad build by any means. Just weird how accessorizing a pistol with common sort of stuff gets a name, and a story of a guy who built it.
I think the reason its catching on is because its still practical for everyday carry. A race gun for EDC, compelling innit?I guess I think its funny that a guy builds an open class gun and it gets a special name. I dont think its a bad build by any means. Well ultimately its a matter of technological advancement making refinements such as these reliable and affordable enough for a carry gun.Right, so Red Dots got the same backlash, and honestly there are much better dots to use for a race gun than an RMR, but they would be horrible for daily use, and at the same time the idea of milling a slide for the dot on a race gun is also out and frame mounting it is the best way to go but that's a no go for edc.
But now that milling and dots are becoming smaller, 2 year battery life, hella durable (well the RMR, others I'd be careful with, but still not at the same level as a race gun dot) more affordable you are seeing them all over the place.
Better triggers and more options are coming out because the whole Ford montra of you can have any trigger you want as long as its factory stock is going out the window, people like flat face, people like curved, some like the combo. Many are just trigger shoes that on a glock keep the 4.5-5.5lb but "feel" less because of the design
So red dots help open class guns get on target faster and more accurately (especially when the distance opens up), better triggers mean faster and more importantly more accurate shots. Comps help with recoil. Why limit these to game guns when, if something gives someone an advantage why not try and have that advantage if needed during a gun fight.
Sorry but if I ever need to use my gun for self defense, I dont want a fair fight I want every advantage I can get at the time, and guess what say it's just a point shoot situation and I never even notice my sights or RMR, well it was there and didnt hinder anything

If I take enough of a shine to it I plan on milling the slide of my Glock 19 for an RMR too.
The RMR seems to be the toughest of the micro dots.
I mean a compensated pistol for EDC at the time wasnt common but that's cool, you seemed pretty offended that some guy built a purpose driven carry gun and his friends coined a nick name for it and it's becoming more and more popular over the last 3 or 4 years
I don't see your point. The distinguishing thing about the Roland Special is that it brings an open class gun, as you put it, into a carriable package.Offended no, no, no... I could care less. Just funny how it got a name. Common pistol with common modifications is a new thing. But dont care. To me its nothing more than a open class build.
I did listened to that pod cast you linked, the guy seems like a weenie. Said the Glock needed a soul??? Seems like he was more caught up in the emotions of it. Then surprised that after doing all the modifications that are done to an open class pistol that they actually work. Shocking!!

True competition guns are too big, too heavy and often too finicky to be a good defensive CCW.
But the Roland Special puts a lot of that competition gun capability into an EDC package.
The name is only relevant in that it gives us a convenient label to refer to the concept by.
