A No Go for Tier 5 Solutions Modified Bolt Catch

I heared that Dark Stain made a video of them shooting the Tier 5. The claim is that they held the tier 5 down and shot the AR as an SemiAuto. They then sent the video to the state troopers. I’m researching this crap now. I know dark stain industries suck. But, this would be a new low.

It's ridiculous that the state police or legislating, sounds like the only way to resolve it is going to be a BS court case.

I looked at their website again. Whatever caused them to change and say that the NYSP told them that it does not change the designation from semiautomatic to manually operated is no longer there and now they just say that the NYSP will not give them anything in writing and referred them back to the Safe Act website.

So we are back to square one. Whatever or whomever told them that it was a no-go that caused them to send out emails saying it was no longer legal has backtracked.

Assume for one minute that the bolt catch mod is compliant. If some hot dog trooper has a hair up his ass, he will arrest you anyway. It will cost you thousands to prove your in compliance. The trooper doesn't care if he arrested you by mistake.

The same goes for any mod to make an AR kosher. You've either got to be willing to take chances, or else no more toys.

That is basically what Centola told me about the SAFEMod that they make/sell. Although many of his cop friends will tell him it's fine in their eyes and they won't really do anything if you have one installed, the only way it's officially SAFE compliant is through case law. Anything other than a court decision is as good as a guess.

After checking this out, I wonder how it'd work w/ a BAD Lever? I'd rather hit that than have a fixed mag I think. I'm not sure. How fast can one pew pew pew with a detachable mag and this device? With the BF10 loader, I can load pretty fast and pew faster, but it takes practice. Having a BAD Lever right there by your finger would certainly speed up the process. Seems like a lot of wear on the bolt catch though - or is it just me?

That is not how American legislation is suppose to work. It is to be clear, concise and understandable to the average man. But then NYSSR isn't hardly American anymore.

I think the Tier 5 is the perfect solution to a pistol AR. Keep the detachable mag and hold the gun at the mag well for repeated shots. I've shot a couple with this installed and I liked the whole set-up.

The Bad lever makes it slower since after every shot your trigger finger comes off the trigger to release the bolt.

If you use the regular bolt release with your non shooting hand, your finger stays on the trigger and you can be faster.

I don't know if that makes any sense in how I'm explaining it.

I stopped by Civil Armory down in Pleasant Valley to pick up a lower. Spoke with the shop owner about the tier 5 and he has printed papers of the breakdown of the Safe Act.

Good info to go by when building your rifle or keeping it around, but as we stated before, that's all this really is - good info.

Like the SAFEMod, these may be good in the eyes of one department, but it doesn't matter what anyone says until a court case decides which of these safe-compliant mods are actually "legal" in the eyes of the law as it was written. There's a bunch of different products out there, but nobody has actually gone to court over a potential SAFE Act violation with one of these installed. Whenever that happens, you can bet that'll be "the one" to buy if a court finds that it is actually keeping the rifle within the boundaries of the SAFE Act

The Tresmonds represented a guy with an MR2/ ARmaglock installed. The last I heard before the Tresmonds went silent on the old forum was that the AR got confiscated. The victims probably plead out and didn't push the issue since it was easier.

What happened to the Tresmonds?

I recall an awful lot, some years ago, about how there was a lawsuit against NY SAFE and it was on the cusp of going through but then just delay after delay and I'm guessing they got sick of coming back and saying yeah it's delayed again. So who's fault was all that? Did they ever sign off and say look we don't know what's up sorry, or did they skulk off?

Sorry but...I gotta dredge this up.
I was at the Newburgh gun show back in November (2020) and there was one dealer that was there selling complaint AR’s. This was literally the only thing he did to make them compliant. So my question is two fold. Was this officially deemed “non complaint”? Second, is the company still around? I can’t find them online.
