Oh there are are. I searched around and didn't find any. Maybe they don't advertise prominently. I would appreciate any recommendations if you have any. Whats off about my request, I think I was pretty forthcoming in my post, maybe overly so.

A no would've sufficed, but I appreciate the answers anyway. @BDinPutnam , I don't know what in the fuck a PH D is, I think you meant Ph.D. And no, it's not in grammar (i don't know if there is one), it's in chemistry. @Willjr75 , whats to stop you from loading your weapon and committing a crime. I wasn't asking to take anyone's rifle and start sending rounds downrange. Obviously I would introduce myself and you would only go to the range with me once you got to know me. You know, how people communicate in real life.

Judging from people's tone here, no wonder a tiny city can rule and trample all over a massive state, and there is nothing people do except dress up for costume parties at the capital and lose more elections.

Thanks, this is the kind of reply I was looking for.

Easton in Penn is a bit of a drive. The Rahway branch is pretty close by. Their rental rate seems more reasonable than RTSP, where I usually go. Would you happen to know how much they charge for ammo?

Well I can't really do much about that anonymously over a forum. My original question can be answered in a yes, no, or just simply ignored. I just asked if anyone with a long gun upstate be willing to go the range with my because I don't want to buy ammo at exorbitant prices at rental ranges anymore. I imagine that's an unusual request, but not quite sure how that trolling.

I don't know if anyone here has ever been to nuggetfest in the past couple of years, but someone would pretty much rent out a field in PA and we all got to shoot each others guns. It was pretty fun and always without incident.

Yeah seems like they do rentals. I mean I like RTSP in Randolph, NJ. It's just that rental places always ridiculously overcharge for ammo, which is why I asked if could go to the range with someone and bring my own ammo from a store upstate. Instead I get lectured on some bs and accused of being a troll. But thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Some of us have gotten together on camping trips and shot together. That is after spending time on the forum getting to know each other. A new guys first post asking to do so was a little strange especially considering the strict laws this state has.

It always seems like there are two kinds of people in the gun community: people who are annoyingly paranoid of everything and those who tend to be more outgoing and recreational about their hobby. I was just hoping there would be a lot of the latter. I understand from your post why some may have concerns, but I'm not sure how accusing people of being trolls helps.

OK, I'll chime in. I've been on this forum (or it's predecessor(s)) for at least the past 6+ years and don't recall another thread where a new member has asked the community at large to go to a range and shoot their semi-automatic guns. There are so many red-flags with this thread it's hard not to assume it's a trolling post. Giving current legal and political environment we find ourselves in a regular member would be remiss to think anything else.

Red flags:
* 1st post asking to shoot other peoples guns
* NYC resident who claims to be longstanding shooter doesn't have own guns (why? prohibited person?)
* Young - just graduated college
* Finds indoor ranges too restrictive
* Asking members of community to potentially break NYS law (allowing another to shoot their pistol)
* Not only asking for themselves but also for a friend
* Bizarre comment about appearance of gun enthusiasts

And that's just the first post!!!

Yeah, call me jaded. Stick around for a while and get to know the community. Maybe opinions will change. For now, no thanks.

There are many who are quite open and recreational. But, here in ny, as you know, we are second class citizens to be hated and scorned. You cannot simply pop on the forum and ask people to use their firearms, some of which cost thousands, without ANY prior interaction. I know people in real life, people I have known a long time, that would not be able to touch my rifles. You don't take an animal that has been kicked about and just expect it to be overly outgoing and trusting. In ny, gun owners have been being kicked about for a long time and we are duly skeptical and mistrusting of people on forums with questions like yours. Especially since state agencies, media and anti gun folks are no strangers to causing trouble and fishing for arrests on the forums. Take it a little more slowly before dropping a question like that, and expect some barbs.

In the short time I've been here it's clear we have a fair amount of trolls roll through. I don't think you're one but it's hard to tell and many who are friendly will be skeptical about a new member going straight into these kinds of questions.

My suggestion would be to possibly go to the introduction section and introduce yourself some. Then if you want to become a part of this community post around and as people get to know you more (which takes longer through a forum than a face to face) they may be more receptive.

Another suggestion is maybe try Facebook and see if you can find a group there that is specifically for what you're looking to do.

Another reason people may be skeptical here as well is usually when you shoot with someone you have a firearm of your own and you let them shoot yours and they let you shoot theirs.

Just some things to think about regarding the response you've received here. Good luck to ya lad.

As to your points, I explained I just graduated college, and you cant own anything in the city until you turn 21 (which I did a few months ago). I'm going to move for grad school so there's no point in getting a permit. I will live on a SUNY campus though so I can't really own anything there either. Can't do anything about being young, although I have been shooting since 18. It gets boring shooting an AR at 15 yards indoors. As for the shooting another person's pistol thing, I did not know about that, so I won't ask for that. Which I guess explains why no range in NY rents handguns. Yeah I have a friend who lives in the city and is in the same boat. People have friends. I didn't say anything about other people's appearances. Just my own. I am of South Asian descent, extremely few gun enthusiasts are. At least never met any on the range.

Thank you for giving me the benefit of the doubt. I can now see that a new account like mine asking something extremely specific like that could raise alarm bells. It's just that even though it's text, I can recognize some people's tones that reflect the demeanor of some gun owners I encounter in real life. The kind who shoot in the corner port and just stare at you in a mean-spirited way. I guess I will do what you said: introduce myself and maybe ask that question after I know some people here. As for both people having guns during a meet up; I had the unfortunate luck of growing up in the apple, but we don't really get to chose where w're born.

Dont get bent man, you have to understand we get journalists and trolls that come here and try to instigate or set people up to look reckless. What you requested is pretty out there in the gun community, unless its in a class type setting.

South Asian...... pffft. You know how many hardcore asian gun nuts I know?
Hell, speaking of @OnSight Firearms Training, there is a couple, American citizens I'm happy to say, Chinese born that go to Ben's classes in Pittsburgh. They are super nice and the rock the class too.
The reason for the negative responses are twofold:
1 Anti gunners have infiltrated this and most likely all other gun forums.
2 Asking to shoot someone's gun whom you have never met is a little like pissing next to a guy at a urinal and asking if you can shake him off.
Weird and inappropriate. Best bet is to rent guns at a range. That said most gun owners, when engaged in conversation about what they brought will often offer them up for a go. Its good etiquette to fire off only a few shots when offered.
I will often let somone rip through a whole mag though. I'm proud of my stuff and I let just about anyone shoot it. Especially the Galil, I love that thing so much!

As other have alluded to your request was out of the norm for most gun owners/ shooters. I have been shooting for over 45 years and would never dream of asking someone I don't know to shoot their guns ( at a range let alone the Internet).

I normally decline offers from strangers to shoot their guns on the range. If I know the person I may accept their offer but never a stranger. To me it is like someone in asking you to pick up their wife in a bar, (Just creepy).

Yeah but we all know its pretty common that when the discussion turns to "Whatcha brought" the trigger time ensues. Personally I am very generous with my guns and ammo, somewhat reluctant to accept an offer to shoot someone else's stuff but it doesn't take much arm twisting to get me to take a go. Again I do make sure to not burn a whole magazine, unless its insisted upon.
