I pick up people's wives at a bar all the time. Just kidding lol. But i get your point.
LMAO- you might have had better luck asking that instead... more range time!

Yeah but we all know its pretty common that when the discussion turns to "Whatcha brought" the trigger time ensues. Personally I am very generous with my guns and ammo, somewhat reluctant to accept an offer to shoot someone else's stuff but it doesn't take much arm twisting to get me to take a go. Again I do make sure to not burn a whole magazine, unless its insisted upon.
Thank you for giving me the benefit of the doubt. I can now see that a new account like mine asking something extremely specific like that could raise alarm bells. It's just that even though it's text, I can recognize some people's tones that reflect the demeanor of some gun owners I encounter in real life. The kind who shoot in the corner port and just stare at you in a mean-spirited way. I guess I will do what you said: introduce myself and maybe ask that question after I know some people here. As for both people having guns during a meet up; I had the unfortunate luck of growing up in the apple, but we don't really get to chose where w're born.
Yeah, fuck those Canadians!Asians are fine with us.
As long as you're not a friggin Canuck
Only if you read it that way..Did this post just go GAY !!! lol
God I hope not.Did this post just go GAY !!! lol
LoL,now yer clickin kidI pick up people's wives at a bar all the time. Just kidding lol. But i get your point.
Stereotypes are everywhere but we do need more diversity in the gun community @james1997bond so don't feel weird. I think as stated before, your best bet (and most practical considering your post graduate endevors and living situation) would be to temporarily suck up the over priced range ammo and just go, rent and meet people. Branch out from there. Hopefully, you finish your studies and land an awesome job (hopefully in a free state). Then you'll be in a place where you can purchase and store your own guns and shoot your own ammo. I guess, consider how you might go about networking in the Chemistry/Science field.
You've "lurked around for years" yet are surprised by the responses you got.
Good luck with your paper or article or warrant or whatever you're trying to write. I hope you get an A+. I still call bs. You are under 21 and entering a Ph. D. program?
If @james1997bond wants to drive aaaaaalllllllll the way to Atloona PA on......... lookin' like this Tuesday at the moment, he can shoot whatever I bring. I'll bring the SKS and the 1,000+ rounds I have for it and he can shoot it till he is blue in the face.
I'm not typically stingy with my ammo. I buy by the case and I don't like bring any back home.Thank you thats mighty nice of you. But I'll respectfully decline. It does seem inappropriate to do this without getting to know people better. I should've gone to Penn State lol. I reckon thats close to where you mentioned. But damn, an SKS huh. Never seen one in person. Once again, thanks for offering, but maybe some day. and I wouldn't use your ammo, I would bring my own and offer you.
Hey OP- if you're good to go, you're good to go. Bit of a jaded cynic having seen many a "hi I'm new here- anyone have a machine gun I can buy?" post. If I'm wrong on you, I'll be the first to apologize. Seems like you're on the right track here.
What have you been shooting that you liked/didnt?
If we appear a little paranoid, it's just because in this state they really are out to get us.I understand. I was expecting to be ignored but I didn't really expect the vitriol either. As to your points, I explained I just graduated college, and you cant own anything in the city until you turn 21 (which I did a few months ago). I'm going to move for grad school so there's no point in getting a permit. I will live on a SUNY campus though so I can't really own anything there either. Can't do anything about being young, although I have been shooting since 18. It gets boring shooting an AR at 15 yards indoors. As for the shooting another person's pistol thing, I did not know about that, so I won't ask for that. Which I guess explains why no range in NY rents handguns. Yeah I have a friend who lives in the city and is in the same boat. People have friends. I didn't say anything about other people's appearances. Just my own. I am of South Asian descent, extremely few gun enthusiasts are. At least never met any on the range.
that's not so far out there to me. I'm still in a 4-year program and I'd say my collection is pretty decent as well as my available time to shoot. Judging by his name and that he said he's 21, he can't be more than a few months younger than me.James1977bond,
You are a grad student who has been shooting for just 3 yrs yet you have all this experience with firearms? You seem to have shot multiple guns multiple times. Seem to have crammed a lot into a short period. Where did you get the time to study for your undergraduate degree? You must of spent a lot of $ for range time, ammo and rentals. How did you finance it? In your original post you said you went hunting upstate. Why don't you ask your hunting buddy to fire his gun with your ammo?
Just wondering....

Ok James, I’m very familiar with the downstate Ph.D. routine so let me just say you’re a grown-ass man with a degree now. You could live off-campus or if that’s not financially doable at your school you could rent a storage unit off-campus and keep your guns in it. Problem solved.I explained I just graduated college, and you cant own anything in the city until you turn 21 (which I did a few months ago).
