As far as the charges being dropped, I guarantee the fix was in on that bullshit. Baldwin and his fake "Spanish" wife are leftists darlings and useful foot soldiers. This prosecution was "botched" on purpose. Its almost a classic key stone cops kind of set up replete with legal "oopsies" that "tainted" the case. The prosecutor who resigned? If you're some executive working in an industrial setting and you want to inspect inside a tank, you need confined space training. You don't get to just say "well, I paid someone else to do that for me".

Either get the training to become competent, or just don't do that.

And yep, if you want to be an action hero, that means you probably need to spend a few hours learning the basics of gun handling.

There are some things where it's reasonable to outsource to an expert, if you buy factory ammo and it blows up your gun, it's not your fault for not checking that it was loaded properly, but there is no excuse for handling a gun without knowing how to handle it properly, and that includes how to verify if it is loaded.

Also, movies do *not* generally need you to point guns at people. The camera can easily make it look like you are when in reality it's pointed well away from them.

He wasn’t producer in name only, he was the lead executive producer, he is credited with the story, the entire film is his baby and vehicle for himself, he was by far the most experienced person involved in the film, he is a control freak and everyone on set ultimately answered to him. He’s been acting more than twice as long as the “armorer” he chose to cheap out on has been alive, including many films and shows with lots of guns. He has no excuse. This was the second film his “armorer” ever did, and she was being scolded for not spending enough time on other props, and had serious safety violations on her first film.

Absolutely right. On top of plenty of other actors saying he should have checked the gun and cylinder himself and then pulled the trigger six times in a safe direction to double-check as soon as it was handed to him as a “cold gun.” Something he’s been trained on before if he was paying attention.

Baldwin was working when both Hexum and Brandon Lee had their on-set deaths. There have been strict and well-known protocols in film and TV for firearms since The Crow in 1993, Baldwin was running a two-bit production violating every standard and ignoring protests from his armorer and a literal safety walkout from his union crew that very morning due to prior negligent discharges on set! If you look at the details it only gets more damning for Baldwin and starts to look more like a depraved-heart murder than involuntary manslaughter.

The thing that makes no sense to me whatsoever is why an actual functioning firearm would ever be used as a "prop" on a movie set at all. Other than security guards on set, who are not part of the production, why would anything but a "prop" gun that cannot actually fire a live round ever be used to make a movie? Hollywood is the land of make-believe, there is no reason to have a real firearm during production when we know damn well a very reasonable facsimile of one can be made or bought.

Further, why would there ever be a live round on a movie set? Like an actual functioning firearm, live rounds are not needed to make a film, especially now with the level of technology for effects available.

As to responsibility, Its one thing to say the armorer is responsible for all weapons on site, its another thing to say that absolves everyone else of the responsibility of handing any weapon. You take a deadly weapon in your hand, particularly when there are other people around, there is a responsibility that MUST go with it.

If you go to a gun range and the guy running range hands you a gun, it is still YOUR responsibility to treat it as loaded, to keep your booger hook off the trigger until you're ready to aim and fire at your target, to be in control of your muzzle and never point it at anything unless you are not ready and willing to kill/hit, and KNOW your target and what is beyond it.

Those are the very basics of safe firearm handling. Pull that shit Baldwin pulled on a gun range, and you're going to prison.

"But the range rover told me it was empty and it didn't matter where I pointed the gun he handed me" is not an affirmative defense against manslaughter. Even if you're paying the guy to run the range for you...

As far as I'm concerned there is no such thing as a negligent discharge or an "oopsie" when it comes to deadly weapons. You carelessly and foolishly pull a trigger and make it go boom, the responsibility for not knowing it was loaded or pointed in the wrong direction is on your hands. Your excuses are your own, and you ought to get plenty of time to think about that if the worst happens.

Hollywood retards go on and on about how evil and dangerous guns are, how they seem to turn people into blood thirsty maniacal murders, how no one needs one, and on and on, but here they are fucking around with stuff they know fuck all about and then pretending like they have nor responsibility when boom boom hits the potty.

Accidents happen. This was entirely preventable with protocols, rules, warnings, training, and the ingrained noton of double checking a dangerous tool before using it is always best practice.

Since the revolver was supposed to have dummies, not blanks, then that’s a good point that there was no reason for it not to have the firing pin removed also other than laziness and convenience at the expense of safety.

You’re right also about live rounds, those belong nowhere on set.

The entire production was an amateur hour, two bit shit-show—Baldwin’s shit-show. That’s fine if you’re making a shitty movie no one needs to watch but not when they’re a safety violations and guns in the equation. Even with all the corner cutting, Baldwin should have known better all on his own from his prior experience. Just because he hired some overtaxed kid girl in over her head and his lousy AD said “cold gun” was no excuse to start playing around with a real revolver on a crowded set like it’s a squirt gun. If he had taken a minute or two to attempt the most basic gun safety rules when you are handed a firearm this would never have happened. But the armorer and AD’s lapses are at Baldwin’s feet too.

You know I was thinking about blanks, and I guess I just assumed that whoever was in charge of the props or real weapons would have protocols and rules about how to go about handing them off to the actors. Wouldn't best practice be to load the weapon while the actor watches and can confirm that they are blanks and not live rounds? Why wouldn't there be a protocol or rule to make sure that actors know the difference, and have at least a bit of on the spot advice/training before handing over a gun to a neophyte?

Seriously, these are people who have staff to advise them what is being offered on the catered buffet, how many calories are in this or that lunch or dinner option, whether stuff is high in anti-oxidants or might stain their perfect and expensive teeth. Rich leftist darlings like Baldwin have people to wipe their asses for them.

I look at all of the regulation and insurance requirements in trucking and so many other occupations now, and think maybe its time FedGov put a spotlight on the dangers of playing dress up and make believe.

You can't drive a truck in this country anymore without a couple of weeks of classroom training and X number of hours behind the wheel before they'll give you a road test. But lets hand off loaded weapons to idiot actors who don't know a cylinder from a mag well?

I'm pretty sure there is training to get certified as a security guard and to be handed a weapon, and that stuff is mandatory not only as training for the job and for the sake of safety, but also mandated by insurance companies. I'd think insurance companies would want to make sure people weren't getting shot on movie sets and have mandates for safety training, but what the hell do I know?
