I used to have a decent stash of 22 but, I split it with the kids when they moved out and took their 22s.
I do a lot of reloading so I will just load until I don't have any brass, then buy more brass and load that too. The wife says I am a hoarder. I tell her I am not because, I don't have an emotional attachment to ammo, just the guns that shoot it.

I only have an inventroy of the stuff that i dont have a gun for and needs a home. I somehow have boxes of ammo for guns ive NEVER owned and im not sure how it happened.
The rest i just measure by the sag on the shelves. Shelf looks like a boat i shoot more. Shelf looks level again, im low.

I used to have ammo in several calibers for which I had no firearms. Figured it might come in handy to sell or trade. Got virtually all of it free or very inexpensively. Wound up getting rid of the last of it when Obummer was prez except for the 45 ACP because somewhere in his terms I bought a Remington R1.

I haven't bought any of this particular stuff in a looong time. But when I was in Texas this is pretty much all I bought to feed my AR! Got this in Wally World in Chambersburg PA for $179 and change.

I was at gander mountain yesterday to so if there was anything I wanted to grab at their going out of business sale. That same case you bought was $429. They wonder why they went out of business.

I'd like to see a graph of the Dow against ammo prices.
Really? You sure about that? That would make it more than $1 a round which is absurd for run of the mill 55gr bulk ammo. Most shops I'm in want around $240 for these. After shopoing around $179 is about what you'll pay online. So that price without shipping is an okay deal really. I'm gonna keep an eye out in every walmart I'm in for this stuff.
Lol they had bulk federal no stripper clips and no ammo box was $40 more expensive that the same ammo broke up in 100 packs. Their prices were so messed up I wouldn't even buy anything at 15% off. I was hoping for a bedside safe and they only have older models for more than the new models. It really was pretty bad.

Is Gander Mountain out of business? The last article I read about them was that they filed for bankruptcy and were going to close 32 stores but the rest of their stores would remain in business. While some of their stores may be closing down, I think that is not quite the same as Gander Mountain already being out of business, at least not yet. Of course, it sounds like they may go out of business soon since they are talking about selling off the remaining stores. Who knows though, such plans often change.
I guess from now on, if you want to shop really overpriced stores for guns, ammo and such - you will have to go to Dick's Sporting Goods, Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops; that is unless the buyout of Cabela's by Bass Pro Shops actually goes through. Then Dick's and Bass Pro Shops may only be two big ones left around here. Right now though that buyout appears questionable as per the last report I saw about it. Just as that deal may change or fall through, as it appears to be changing in the span of less than 6 months since it was announced this past October, Gander Mountain may somehow find some way to stay afloat over the next few months. Who knows, if the BPS and Cabela's deal falls through, maybe BPS will acquire Gander Mountain.
I would hope Gander Mountain would come to their senses about pricing because I agree that is probably what put them into the pickle they are in right now. Their ammo prices are/were disgustingly absurd as were prices on many other things I purchased there when I was in need and that was the only place hat had the stuff. Every now and then though, they had a decent sale on some things.
Honestly IDK if all the stores are going out but I know the one in New Hartford is. It's too bad now I won't have anywhere to but the little Nick nack stuff that comes up. I would buy stuff like a cheap wool hat when I lose mine. Or a cheap pair of hunting gloves. Last season I went in there looking for a drag rope. They don't carry them. I was like really this is a big deer hunting area and you don't have a simple drag rope. That's when I saw the writing on the wall they have no clue what the consumer needs. I lucked out and dropped my doe 10 yards from the 4 wheeler trail.
I genuinely cannot remember what the price for these were in '04-05. For reference does anyone here remember what these cans were going for at that time?

Never considered inventory of rounds / caliber since I have never approached the vague feeling of "having too much ammo". Just kept track of the number of piles of M2A1 ammo cans, and verify I have no empty ammo cans "feeling left out", and I occasionally consider concentrated floor loads. As long as my ammo inventory is stored in ammo cans, or stored in unopened cases, or is part of full 22lr bricks, my wife actually encourages me to keep us well stocked in our shooting calibers since she has developed a close to 5000 round a year habit in 9mm and she just started talking about an interest in bigger barrels, trap / skeet, and 22 plate / target shooting. God I love that little woman.
