Um... What? Some one just told me this is going into effect 9/9 because they can’t perform the checks currently?!

Same reason for no alcohol I imagine.I’m surprised the native Americans don’t do more with selling guns and ammunition. Given history I would think they would be big supporters of people being well armed.
Walmart is telling their sports desk employees that it doesn't go into effect until 9/4 this year. Some one just told me this is going into effect 9/9 because they can’t perform the checks currently?!
Not law absent the database!
Occupation? WTF does that have to do with anything?
Anyways, a few sandwiches and a nice day trip fills the trunk with lead! And the taxes go elsewhere too!
Fuck NY!
Again it was just word of mouth from one friend to my friend to me. No clue if it is accurate but he said he sent him an article on it.Walmart is telling their sports desk employees that it doesn't go into effect until 9/4 this year.
Gotta love laws that are clear and concise.

My car is a machine that converts gas mileage into 5.56 NATOFill the tank with no-lead in order to fill the trunk with lead. It’s like alchemy, only with gas & ammo.
In Mexico?America still resides just across the border.
What a joke. I’m sorry I likely will not be buying ammo in NYS anymore if this sticks.Stopped by the FFL today and picked up a couple boxes of 9mm hollowpoints. They took down my pertinent information (name, address, occupation, etc.) before I could proceed with the transaction.
I did it out of curiosity more than anything. They also said they couldn't sell any semi auto long guns as the state hasn't figured out the permit system for them yet. What a joke. I’m sorry I likely will not be buying ammo in NYS anymore if this sticks.
I get the curiosity. My occupation will be the general manager at NOYFB. You might as well have some fun with it.I did it out of curiosity more than anything. They also said they couldn't sell any semi auto long guns as the state hasn't figured out the permit system for them yet.
I'm emailing Target Sports now to find out what they are doing. I spoke with a customer service rep there last week and she told me the ammo portion doesn't go into effect until 2023 and they are still shipping directly to your door.Walmart is telling their sports desk employees that it doesn't go into effect until 9/4 this year.

I’m honestly glad you did because I had the same curiosity. I may buy a few boxes of 20 gauge slugs because with the background check stuff maybe I’ll be able to find them this year. I doubt that will raise too much of a flag.I did it out of curiosity more than anything. A nice link with a citation or solid evidence, or the actual regulation spelled out with the specific dates would be even better than an email from a private business from another state. Shops here in NY state are already starting the process of collecting info on the buyer at the time of sale, so “the ammo portion” has already gone into effect in that regard.I'm emailing Target Sports now to find out what they are doing. Or just leave it alone and don’t notification them of their error.A nice link with a citation or solid evidence, or the actual regulation spelled out with the specific dates would be even better than an email from a private business from another state. Amount and occupation are just ridiculous, but I j see stand why they want it. I don’t agree with it but I understand why they want the amount for their nefarious purposes. Also what unique identifier is there n ammunition. The best I could think of is a lot number but how much is in that lot number? Also it’s only in the box not the ammo. This is plain ridiculous.Ammunition Records Requirement
Effective September 1, 2022: Any seller of ammunition or dealer in firearms shall keep either an electronic record, or dataset, or an organized collection of structured information, or data, typically stored electronically in a computer system approved as to form by the superintendent of state police. In the record shall be entered at the time of every transaction involving ammunition the date, name, age, occupation and residence of any person from whom ammunition is received or to whom ammunition is delivered, and the amount, caliber, manufacturer's name and serial number, or if none, any other distinguishing number or identification mark on such ammunition.
Is there any background check now required for purchasers of ammunition?
Not yet. The law provides that background check requirements imposed on all retail sellers of ammunition are scheduled to take effect on September 13, 2023.

It's not like criminals actually buy their ammo in gun stores. This is entirely aimed at inconveniencing consumers and FFL while at the same time threatening to yank dealers licenses and fining them for non compliance of a statute that they've provided nothing in writing about.

I’m assuming most won’t buy large volumes anymore but I could see where if you buy a case or two you could get a visit. Also just wait h til the background checks come and you’re paying an additional $10 for those two boxes and then wait until they add a special tax.I believe they wrote down the lot number when I bought ammo recently. What that accomplishes I really don't know. Not like they can really track that.
Probably also put down that I bought two boxes of super deadly hollow point ammunition. Look out! This guy's got a whole 50 rounds of cop killer boolets!
Fireworks are illegal (aerials). Ammo isn't. Who is to say if you bought it in PA or if it was in your car before you went over and came back?I would like you to be correct. But there has been precedence of troopers secretly watching fire works sales for NY plates on cars.
Don’t forget to never get or keep the receipt for your recent ammo purchase from PA. I’d also start recording the conversation after you told them no to a search.Fireworks are illegal (aerials). If for some reason I was in that position and ended up getting pulled over here is what I would personally do.... First I wouldn't consent to any searches. Ask if I was free to go, if they say no I'd specifically tell them I am invoking the fifth, request a lawyer, and then I'd shut up. They need to prove what someone did, not the other way around, don't help them at all. Above all consult your own lawyer and don't just listen to what I would do, I'm not giving out legal advice, just what I would do.
