Any Colt/clone SAA fans out there?

I just won my first auction on gunbroker. I've had an active account for a while, but never was quite comfortable with purchasing a gun like that (mostly because I can't see and inspect the gun first hand and also because with transfer fees the savings can also be minimal), but this time I saw what looked to be a possible deal with 3hrs to go and figured, what the heck. I waited till about a half hour before the auction ended to see where the bidding was going and put my bid in. I know they have the 15min rule to stop sniping, which is good, but I figure bidding too early can sometimes only serve to jack the price up. I honestly didn't expect to win either. Well, I won a used Cimarron Frontier 1873 p405 in 357mag with a 7.5 inch barrel, blued with color case hardened frame. It looks to be in very good condition though the grips seem a little light so I will be refinishing them. I have always wanted an SAA and for the longest time had only considered a Ruger New Vaquero. After looking more into it though I began to appreciate the Uberti's and how they are closer to the actual Colt.
I only have pictures from the auction at this point. The pistol should be at my FFL tomorrow so I hope to get to see it this weekend and get the paperwork dropped off next week.

You have a Cimarron as well, or another clone? Lol at your Glock friends. The first handgun I bought was a Glock. At that time it was between a S&W 686, Ruger New Vaquero or the Glock. The Glock ended up being the only one I could find at the time. They did have a Uberti Cattleman that I looked at, but at the time I had my head and heart set on one of the three I mentioned so I passed.

I've never shot one, or any single action revolver for that matter. It's place as a piece of Old West Americana is beyond debate however.
Also a case hardened finish is always beautiful.

I just fell in love with their design. They have great lines and style (keep in mind this is coming from a guy with an art background). You might laugh but I've often wished that they could somehow make the 1873 SAA into a double action with a swing out cylinder. Just to be able to have the design with a more modern flare to it.

I dunno, there are plenty of revolver designs out there with swing out cylinders. Isn't the old school loading gate central to the charm of the classic Colt Single Action Army?

It is. It would be cool to have both in the same package though.

Nice looking. Throw some flashy woods grips on it and it would be really nice looking gun. I’d love an old one from the 1800’s. Maybe some day.

I plan to refinish the grips. I've been looking at replacements also.

Very nice ! I’ve had my Ruger SA Blackhawk for many years and although it’s not quite the same , it is similar. I’ve always wanted one of Uberti’s Schofield replicas. Like this one pictured here.

I do indeed. I was just saying i wish there were a way to get single action beauty in a modern double action. I mean, modern revolvers have a beauty all their own, I just think the SAA is one of the most beautiful revolver designs out there and often think it might be cool to merg modern tech with old school design.

What about a Schofield replica like @S&W Fan posted? Not a swing out but top loaders are even faster and the just aren't that many out there.

I don’t believe so. The .357 magnum cartridge was created by Elmer Kieth, Phillip Sharpe and DB Wesson

Here's my Uberti 1873 Cattleman, in 45lc. I love this revolver, it matches up nicely with my 45lc lever action.

Unless it is a genuine 1898 Antique, or an ATF C&R, no Cartridge Handgun is legal unless it is on the Mass Roster.

The good news is this Roster is a "Consumer Reports" for Handguns. The tests are quite rigorous. Only QUALITY will be there (no Taurus).

The bad news is many fine firearms will NOT be included, because of the expense of the testing, and the fact that paying for the unconstitutional testing required to be on the ROSTER is BS.

So no Uberti Replica Cartridge Handguns are allowed.
