It still has a pistol grip. It’s just wrapped in kydex or has a fin attached to it. It works in California because they define a pistol grip to be something to the effect of allowing your thumb to wrap around.

We have no such definition.

JuJu look into a Fightlite scr, your looking at about 1,000 for one of the better options for ny

Hell you can get one of lowers for 600, then build your upper for however much you want

Just get a FightLite SCR. Total compliant, detachable mags, completely functional. Best compliant option you can get. You can even get just the lower and use the upper of your choice, just make sure the barrel has no muzzle device.

Good point. Both of the guns you linked to @drilling have early style compliance features. I can tell you from experience, both the "fin" on the M&P and the Monsterman grip on the Ruger, SUCK. The featureless AR with the Thordsen stock or the Fightlite are the best two options. You may have to settle for an AR with the spur grip and just pony up the cash for a Thordsen stock to make it more comfortable and safe to use. Or spend $600 on the Fightlite lower and try to find a compliant upper for under $400.

Agreed.
@drilling, I can't stress highly enough that if an AR style rifle is what you are after the SCR is simply the best option. I have handled one and the ergros are good. The problem with the Thordsen stock is the safety is not in fingers reach anymore but on the SCR you have a push through safety mounted back to where you can get at it without disrupting your firing grip. It just feels natural. Other compliance options...... not so much. I mean people in free states are buying SCRs!

Some fixed mag ar-15 and featureless ak-47. The guy told me that only option for ar-15 featureless is thordsen stock which is hideous.

This is gonna be my first rifle lol. I want to make it worthwhile but ny laws make it tough man.

I did too, although I did not like the extra reach to the magazine release, I actually traded mine for another rifle that I wanted for one of my boys. But I honestly wouldn't mind having one in the collection at some point anyway as I think they're great rifles.

These are your options if you have your heart set on an AR15 in this state. Sorry, but this is our reality. If the Thordsen is too off putting then you want the Fightlite. Anything else other than those two options, including a fixed mag, aren't safe for use. Be it the lack of ability to safely and easily clear jams and malfunctions or simply being able to grab and hold the rifle with enough purchase so that you aren't using the trigger as something to hold onto.
You can go with the Thordsen and choke down its ugly looks for the time being. If the laws ever change you'd be able to reconfigure the rifle to it's normal configuration. I can tell you, unfortunately, you get used to the look of the Thordsen. Or get the Fightlite, which is 50 state legal, but is not a normal AR15, it's a different gun. You cannot make it into an AR15.

That’s the only shortfall. You kind of need your offhand to drop the magazine but almost all rifles are like that including the AK and Mini.

We’ve been spoiled with the AR mag release.

Kinda, yeah. The barrel and handguard a but gaudy and the D60 drum is incongruous with the rest of the rifle. I like the stock though

You can do that thing where you beer can the mag and choke down on it a little, hit the release, strip the mag if necessary then insert the loaded one. Takes a lot of practice to not make a cluster fuck out of it under pressure.
I practiced the AK mag flip thing when I had the '74.

@Celt I also installed a Troy Industries ambi mag release, works well drops the mag right into your left hand if you chose or let it fall. Just have to push out the roll pin and reverse the tab up instead ot down.
