I have run them both at training classes with Ben slung across my chest. Standing listening to instruction, walking up and down the line, charging up to the targets full tilt, kneeling, squating, sitting, all over the course of an 8-10 hour day. Neither poke me, neither are big enough to do so. That's why I selected those, and that is why I replaced a BCM Gunfighter with the Raptor in particular.
Now the Galil's left side cocking handle, that certainly does poke me. However I deal with it since it provides excellent function in use.
I was thinking about side chargers and it occurs to me that if the handel is on the right now you have to do the AK roll or reach under and that is an ergonomic downgrade or if its on the left side that will be poking you. I have always thought s8de charging AR setups were dumb, the standard design stays out of the way and a properly selected updated handel eliminates whatever ergonomic foibles the GI piece does.
If a person is satisfied with the GI handle then fine, personal preference and all. If a person has issue with thd GI handel and jumps right to the design bastardization that is AR side charging, well IMO that is foolish.

I am a south paw so side chargers on the right side like the AK, M1, M14 are faster for me than the standard AR charging handle

Are you guys using charging handles often other than the charging of the first magazine? I mean after my first magazine, the bolt release becomes the charging handle.

Going with that mindset. Why do you have an AR when an M1 Garand which is less complex works? Why did Ford create the GT500 after the Model T functioned fine? Progress and creating better products are what it’s all about. Just because something is less complex doesn’t mean it’s always better. If no one ever attempted to invent or change anything, we would all still be stock with muskets.

The jokes about poking you in the chest I’ll ignore and just chalk up to lack of experience. An hour here or there isn’t going to kill you. But when wearing it all day and running around, yeah. You don’t really know until you do wear it all day. That one that is pictured just above this post is the type that I’m talking about.
But again, it’s totally unnecessary especially since you only use that charging handle one time when you charge your weapon after inserting a magazine on a closed bolt. You aren’t using it after each and every reload like you would on a side charger.
It’s a keyboard commando accessory and not something you see on even real Tier 1 Operators weapons and they have the ability to put whatever they want on a weapon to actually use in combat.
