AR15 vs AK mud tests!

They used to go for what $176? Still Thats not a bad deal for 1080 rounds of centerfire rifle ammo. Quick price check at my favorite seller shows the cheapest steel case 5.56 going for a little more than $200 for a 1000 rnd case. Factor in shipping and that's right in the ballpark. I'd buy a few of those if I were you.

I bought one to stash away for my VEPR in 5.45.

The AK fared so badly in those tests in first post I wonder if it is an unusual finding. Like if you did the same test with five more ar15s and five more ak47s what would happen.

My exposure to the ak is very limited (about one 30 round magazine worth) but I thought compared to the AR it was a very rough platform. Didn't like the safety as much and it looked and felt like something built in a wwii factory. I know people like them though and their famed robustness in the field doesn't match that single video here. So once again merica > russia

Pod. Don't take this personal. You didn't create the AR to defend it like you do.

It's reliable enough as long as to don't neglect it. An AK, you can neglect. With that said, I would pick an AR.

The thing with the ak as it stand today is once something goes, you're done. An ar can be fixed with handtools and the bolt head totally disassembled with no tools. An ak? Better have a 12 ton press on hand. On an ar, you can change out a worn barrel. On the AK (modern ones at least), you can't easilly and risk egging the trunnion holes and rendering the hole thing useless. The type of milled reciever, threaded trunnion ak that went up against the m16 in Vietnam was superior to the present akm based design. (Yes, I know that there were small numbers of stamped Ak, I think AMD65s, Type 1 Russian, some others.)
