Oh, I already found out. The Marines did it better as usual!
Marines opt for the 9 mil over 45s for special operators
9mm FMJ only bores .355 holes in the target. When comparing FMJs the .45 is better but if our military finally elects to issue HP ammo 9mm is currently the better choice. Again, pistols really don't matter, they could be issuing 2mm Kolibri for all the difference it makes.

But that .45 wouldn't penetrate an aluminum siding hut.
Less than a mm in diameter difference.
Have you ever done penetration tests with a .45? Cause I'm pretty sure it will go through aluminum siding and the plywood behind it. And isn't more like a 1.5mm difference? Well I'm not going to argue further seeing that both my pistols are 9MMs.

Y'know, I'm gonna get a 1911 someday. And when I do it will be in the proper 1911 caliber, .45 ACP. I wonder how a hot 185gr would do in hard barrier penetration?

I think it would do better. From all the YouTube crap I've seen, anything going over 1000 fps will penetrate those hard barriers. The 185 gr will actually push close to 1100 fps depending on the load compared to the 230 gr at about 850 fps.
The slightly smaller .40 S&W going at about the same speed has no issues.

They aren't. They cannot carry off base like you can.
Yes they can....There were many times, while on duty, that I would carry off of installation. Many Soldiers can.
