ATF Association: Bump Stocks Do Not Convert Semiautomatics into Automatics
In a letter dated October 12, the ATF Association informed lawmakers that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) approved bump stocks because they do not turn a semiautomatic rifle into “a machine gun.”
The letter contains explanations of basic points for lawmakers–like the fact that a semiautomatic only shoots one round each time the trigger is pulled and bump stocks to not change this basic action. And it also seeks to defend the integrity of the ATF by explaining that the body of laws governing machine guns has been in place since 1934 and that body of laws dictates when and how an accessory crosses the line into Class III territory.

The ATF Association letter was written by the group’s president, Michael Bouchard, who said:

So you support regulation? What about regulating semi autos too? You'll need a tax stamp and permission to own one. Since they are now regulated, it's okay for states to ban them outright like they do with silencers, SBR's, ECT.

I know you don't really support any of this nonsense but are instead looking for validation in supporting the NRA. I get it.

In reality the Bumpstocks are hard to control/make work correctly. . As a result you hit even less than you would with a FA. (More starting and stopping with a bs cause they are hard to make work)

The shooter would have done WAY more damage with a semi auto aimed EVERYTIME into the heart of the crowd.

I'm not. The ATF does not want to be a political circus. They are putting it on the lawmakers. They already made a decision and they are standing by it. It would look worse to change direction now. Also down the road it would put them in a bad spot because any law maker could ask them hey can you make this illegal or make this legal. They are right it does not make it full auto and that's the bottom line for them. Now watch all the fighting in the house and senate over this.

Maybe. Except you have the NRA, republicans, and democrats saying they should be banned or regulated further. So what's that mean if a democrat puts a bill together it's pretty hard for anyone to fight against it and it "should" pass. Should in this case is not my opinion of wether or not I want it to pass or not it's that the law makers should pass it. I don't want it or think it should pass for the record.

I fully agree that semi would have been more deadly but I don't find the bumpstock difficult to use at all.
