But it should be because in doing so you are violating your oath. I understand the situation you are in. Unfortunately a cop whether good or bad cannot uphold his oath. It sucks that unfortunately that’s how the real world is and also unfortunate that the real world is wrong.

Your post proves my point. Charge them and lock them up then. Because if you are just going to take their guns to leave them free at home, you also need to take their knives, car, matches, etc. It’s a really simple concept. If the state can prove that they are a danger, they should be incarcerated. Taking their guns does nothing. These confiscations are just to deprive someone of their rights. Plain and simple.
If I was a credible threat and they thought I was going to harm the president, they wouldn’t just take my guns and leave me be. I would be locked up pending investigation immediately. Why is it different if the threat was to someone else?
I have a lot of respect for cops out there. Especially for guys like @Airborneguy @GOPerfect etc... They are good members here and they have clearly made their very pro 2a opinions known. We want them as allies. We want them on the force. We want them to influence their co-workers. We want them to get promoted to higher levels.
I remember a post where an leo member here most likely saw an out of state individual partially open carrying a 1911 and instead of jamming him up let him go about his business.
Frustration at the individual cops is misguided. Sure there are jerk cops but there are jerks everywhere in every profession.
We need to focus our energy and anger on politicians.
Focus it on state or local level officials too. Focus it on the local sheriff. Vote for the sheriff who is anti safe act etc.. most cops I've talked to are not out looking to be a confiscation hero. They just aren't. Sure there might be a few who get off on it but it's the exception.
If a real state wide confiscation order went out (not a warranted individual red flag) the vast majority of cops would probably not follow it.
We need to lobby to our country sheriff, state legislator, congress rep, senators etc..
No one here wants confiscation. We're all rightly skeptical of red flags and the potential for abuse and the lack of due process and the precedent it sets. We have to keep track and make sure it's not being abused. But let's keep the cops as allies. We all want to be on the same side.

If I remember correctly, he said that he was a full time officer and after retirement he was a reserve officer as well but to find that video, it would be a needle in a haystack.

I think the Yankee marshal makes a couple of good points but I must confess there is something about him I don't like. On his larger point I think he completely wrong. If an idiot like Beto or any other Democrat gets in office and implements a ban it won't be the police that enforce it. There simply aren't enough of them. They will have to call out the national guard. And that is when the civil war starts. I don't consider this a real possibility at the present time. But things could change.

I have no problem smearing cops who actually obey a confiscation order completely unrelated to actual criminal activity (ie, not simply gun laws).
This piece of shit preemptively smeared all cops immediately based on the dumbass statements of a nobody. He just hates cops and looks for excuses to smear them.

If you're going to have an anonymous person call in a Red flag, DUE PROCESS MUST HAPPEN FIRST, not after the police take your guns.
Taking someones property that will cost law abiding citizens financial ruin to get said property back, and is COMPLETELY against the Constitution, period. There shouldn't even be a discussion.
This is why the liberals WANT Red flag laws. So they can steal firearms from law abiding citizens, most of which do NOT have the financial means to get those firearms returned.

Law Enforcement's attitudes have undeniably shifted towards a more militant mindset. It a result of the 9/11 aftermath and the "Patriot Act".
