I think there are two different issues. I agree on the case design etc in regards to functionality. . In addition there are differing Spec. for the projectile diameter and the barrel diameter. the accuracy is the second part of two. I was assuming ( a bad thing sometimes ) that most of us own some type of Easter European designed and manufactured rifle in the 7.62 X 39 caliber. I don't comprehend why anyone would have ill feelings about using steel cased and proper projectile diameter (CIP) ammo in a rifle built in Eastern Europe. If I owned a rifle in 7.62 X 39 made this side of the big pond i would perhaps feel differently when buying ammo for it.
I was not injecting 5.56 0r .223 into the equation at all.

I don't own a soviet bloc rifle, but my AR's eat steel cased all day. The only rifle that has an issue cycling steel is my stainless mini14 and those issues are mostly magazine related. The only rifles I wouldn't shoot steel from are my bolt action 30-06's.

Same here. My ARs just happen to have no problem with steel case. My AKs (built over seas) has no problem with brass OR steel. If someones AR has trouble with brass then it's just plain garbage in this day in age. Steel case 556 in an AR is another story. There are different chambers for it. Tight chambers may cause a problem. The AKs built over seas tending to have loose tolerences for the x39 along with the cartridge shape is why they function so well no matter what you put in them.

I bought a lot of brass cased 5.56 when it was $0.19 a round. I didn't really bother buying steel, but the 2 or boxes I tried were ok.
Still, never got better than 3 or 4 inches out of any gun with steel cased ammo.

I've never had an issue with Wolf steel cased in my 6.5 Grendel. Cycling that is. Even accuracy isn't much of an issue. I just don't get tiny one ragged hole groups with it.
Neither do I no matter what gun or ammo I use. I wonder why that is?

Poor accuracy with Wolf steel cased in the 6.5 Grendel is a common issue. It's believed the main issue is the projectile is .262 rather than .264. 3"-4" groups are not uncommon. My AA 16" fluted barrel though will generally hold to less than 2" with the Wolf.
I haven't tried it in the Howa mini action yet. That will shoot 5 shots of Hornady Black into one ragged hole

No, they think cutting off this chunk of the supply will drive the price up because of the law of supply and demand.
They think more expensive ammo will discourage shooting sports.
They think fewer people participating in shooting sports means less resistance to gun control.

They are already running balls out and can't keep up with demand. If they could "do what it takes to fill the void" why didn't they fill the *existing* void for ammo ?
This isn't going to cause a new ammo shortage. It's going to make the one we've been living in for over a year much worse.
In order to ramp up production any more It's going to take significant capital expenditures and multi year lead times. This problem is not going away soon.

I hate to say it, but you are 100% right, and it sucks. Mr Biden and his anti 2nd regime wants to quell the amount of firearms and target sports, and home protection, as much as they can. If they cant outright ban firearms, they can try to backdoor it thru ammo control. Firearms are useless without ammunition.
One good thing for 2nd amendment rights and gun owners, is that there has been a HUGE spike in gun licensing, ownership, and purchasing in this country the past 2 years. That is scaring the s#%t out of Mr Bidens regime, and they are scrambling for ways to reign it in. This "Russian ammo" thing is nothing more than trying any ways possible to hurt us as gun owners. Ammo has already been in short supply, and this WILL make it worse, and those here that dont "understand" that, are arguing just to argue.

They're not wrong either.
They might be wrong about the net cost to society, but that first part they are spot on about.
Anything that increases the cost to deliver any product to the consumer will necessarily decrease demand for that product. It's a law as immutable as gravity.
Fewer consumers for a product means less political opposition to banning it (if that's your goal).
Those things seem so obvious I can't imagine how anyone disputes them ?
