Biden recently signed into law a requirement that all vehicles produced after 2026 be fitted with a remote kill switch. Electric vehicles are already equipped with this capability via internet-connected “superchargers.” These corporations can sell you a product for tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars, then prevent you from using them. Worse yet, if the law is not challenged or repealed, these kill switches will have a “back door” that allows government agencies to shut your vehicle off remotely as well.

Guaranteed that vehicles will have them installed before the 2026 model year. Not all, but many will, if only to make sure the "feature" works without glitches. Probably most 2024 vehicles will have the capability, even if it's not operational at the time of sale.

People think being able to call someone to unlock their car if they lock their keys inside or being able to remote start (or stop) your vehicle and set the climate control from anywhere you have internet is great…If you can access it, so can someone else.

Well, with all the tech and nuvo OTA (over the air) built in programming that already exists in cars, it's not anything they can't already do.

The interesting thing then is assigning the ability to "kill" vehicle operations by Govt order.

So with Brandon vehicles, post 2016, you'll have to plug it in to move it, blow a clean bac to start it, and of you want to take it anywhere you'll need permission, maybe a prefilled flight plan...

I give it less than a decade before a script that let's you shut down any vehicle you know the VIN of is universally available on bittorrent.

Then text files with plate number to VIN mappings leaked from the DMV will be all over the place..

There is already a robust aftermarket for breaking the encryption in the new Jeep's computers. Everything from tire sizes, gearing, lights, radio... you name it, they have found ways to bypass it.
this will be only one more variable a Jeep owner will be able to access and, if desired, disable.

And you can bet as we near 2026 there will be a push to ban "classic cars" as environmentally wasteful, thus eliminating vehicles they have no control over.
