No I did not. Very reliable acquaintance of mine. They just purchased property out there. I still have 23 acres probably 10 miles from them. Makes me wonder if one pistol is enough when I'm walking the land with my six-year-old

Holy crap non-existent mountain lions. The DEC probably released mountain lions because the coyotes are being hunted too much and they need to keep the deer in check.

Holy Crap ! That's quite the pic. They are smart and deadly. They stalk people without them knowing, circle ahead of groups and pick off the stragglers. Might not have much of an opportunity to reach for the gun, be safe out there, stay aware of your surroundings, watch the higher ground around you, and watch for prints on the ground as you hike.
You should send this pic to the DEC. Not that they'd change their minds or anything.

Years ago I spotted a mountain lion in Brighton / Rochester, NY a bit after midnight.
I called animal control and they told me I was crazy.
Two days later I saw in the news people have been spotting them in Letchworth and Herietta.
Apparently they said migrated from the Carolinas and somehow they make it all the way to the big lakes.
They are nocturnal so that is what protects them. I would think it would be very hard to see during the day
specially in populated areas.

Is it me or does one of the cats look like it has a collar (tracking)?
A while back I heard a story from one of the locals. Said he was driving home & he accidently hit a Mt. loin that attempted to run across the road. He called the police to report the incident. Trooper arrived, threw the dead cat in his trunk, said this never happened & sped off.

I didn't believe the guy's story, this was going back 10yrs+. " he felt " the he authority didn't want folks to freak out if they knew there were mt. Loins in the area.

Twenty years ago or so, A guy complains that coyotes are killing his sheep, and another claims he saw DEC releasing coyotes in the same area. DEC says no coyotes in NY, fast forward with real road kills and hunter kills of coyotes, DEC says coyotes have always been in ny! WHY??!

I don't think it's a collar, it look to me just the way it's fur is laying. Usually, the collars I've seen, are more distinct. Makes them easier for biologists to see it from a distance without disturbing the animal too much.

It's no different than any other questionable act the DEC has done. Plenty of people have reported seeing and hearing wolves in NY yet the DEC says there isn't any. A wildlife biologist swears on his life that he indeed released breading pairs of them and the neigh sayers ridicule everything. Now with Cougars/Mountain Lions or whatever you want to classify them as, the DEC releases a report how they are studying the possible release of them, years and years after they've already been sighted. Classic trying to cover your ass after the fact.
Elusive animals will do everything possible to avoid human contact. Given enough years more will be seen and pictures taken, and like now the DEC is trying to cover their asses.

There was a guy I knew in Sundown, NY (not far from me) that claims to have a picture of mountain lions on his trail cam. I saw the pics and they sure are mountain lions. Whether they actually came from his trail cam as he claims is another story.

OK before you say this is a Bigfoot story, I have a little over 300 acres and I swear to god some sort of cat thing came running across a trail of mine about 50 or 75 yards away and whatever it was had to be about 50 or more lbs, the size of a german shephard, and was some sort of feline and not a canine. It was the size of like 4 large house cats. What the heck was it? Central NY about 100 miles south of Lake Ontario.

Maybe a large bobcat? I know bobcat probably don't get that big but just trying to speculate.
Since the Dec says there are no mountain lions it can't be that. We all know there are cougars though, just go out on ladies night.
That's a great pic - what's the black, red stuff in the lower left with what looks like letters on it? Not doubting the authenticity of the pic in any way.
