You'd be hard pressed to find a vendor to ship one into NY. You can't even order DIY black powder guns to NY anymore.

You used to be correct but I believe these are now listed as a firearm since NY last year redefined what a firearm is. Even prior to that you could possess them but if you had the means to fire the black powder pistol you needed to have it on a permit.

Not related to the legality – if you really want one of those, I recommend getting a steel-frame version instead of a brass frame. You can buy a conversion cylinder for that revolver that lets you shoot .45 Colt ammo in it. While the conversion cylinders fit the brass frame guns, brass is weaker than steel, so shooting .45 Colt would stretch and destroy the frame.
The genuine 1858 Revolver is an engineering miracle.
There are steps incorporated into the cylinder that allow the hammer to rest into safe spaces.
Buy one with Steel, of course. Brass is a cruel joke.

Get a replica one then if you just want to display it. Also anything prior to 1898 you don’t need a NICS a check on but now with the new law I’m not sure how that will work. Also if you get one that doesn’t function it can’t be called a firearm then. Or just drive to a neighboring state and buy what you please and make it inoperable prior to bringing it back to NYS(aka communism)
Also for the record I thought it was funny. It’s our sense of humor on here because of how ridiculous the NYS agin laws are. I’ll bet it’s been 125 years since some one was killed with a black powder gun so yeah I’m not sure why NYS did this.

Yup, if I remember correctly, it was only the Confederacy that used brass frames for revolvers, and they only did it because they couldn't source enough steel. They had to resort to weaker metals like brass and pot iron to try to supply their troops.

I’ve got a Colt Navy Pietta, quite a nice piece. Brass frame, and the cylinder doesn’t lock up correctly, so sadly more of a conversational item at the moment. I’d love to find a smith who could sort it out.
I’ve seen a reproduction LeMat… can’t recall who made it but it was quite expensive. Still super neat, I like offbeat and oddball things and that certainly checks those boxes!
