If the split ever did happen. I think that somehow NYC would still have some control over NYS.
Through corruption and fraud NYC would probably have their very own puppet in place in "New Albany."

Not just revenue is at stake. 90% of the NYC drinking water supply comes from the Catskill watershed. A full third of their trash gets shipped upstate to landfills in the Finger Lakes. NYC and Long Island use better than 2/3 of the state's electricity, but less than half is generated there. And new York STILL has to import electricity from adjoining states and Canada to cover our energy needs. I can't imagine ANY scenario where they would give that up.

Sounds like they need us and we SHOULD have more say in their puppet show. Again pipe dream but hypothetically if those services were stopped they would be in rough shape rather quick.

NYS is a lost cause unfortunately. There is simply no viable way to split the state up, when NYC has the votes to prevent it from happening under any conceivable scenario. Short of the Federal Courts ordering it under some new and novel approach such as the people upstate having no representation at the state level, NOTHING will ever happen.
Politically and economically, it is like the Titanic. Slow moving, unresponsive, unrecoverable, and going in one direction only: Down.
After giving NY over 60 years of my life and my hard earned taxed dollars, I caught a lifeboat, and got out. I simply couldn't fight it anymore. Sorry for all who are left, want to leave, and can't get out for one reason or another.
It was my lifelong home, and I loved almost everything about it. And BTW Princess: I loved the change of seasons, and even the snowy weather NEVER bothered me! People aren't leaving because of the weather. But in the end, the political and economic realities forced my hand.

You can't even get people to agree to open up the State Constitution which would have allowed fixing "some" of the problems within the State. Couple that with abysmal voter turnout for anything but BIG elections, and as noted, the pork barrel gravy train most State residents would fear losing... And you haven't got a snowflakes chance in hell for any paradigm shift in this State! It will be politics as usual in our foreseeable future!

I think if it made it onto the ballot and it didn’t change our national political influence it has a chance of passing. If Andrew Cuomo keeps his influence as well.

I'm pretty sure it broke in half when it was still mostly afloat and the stern was sticking up out of the water. Then the bow half sank to the bottom. The stern bobbed for a bit and then sank as well. Regardless, it was doomed before it happened. Much like this state.

The place is about an hour from me maybe a little less depending on traffic.
I do not like going to the Buffalo area... I do not like people, and there are a lot of people there... LOL
There are a lot of good places to eat in the Buffalo area. So I always make a point to take advantage of that if I do have to go to Buffalo... Maybe Ted's Hot Dogs, that's always a treat when I have to go to the Buffalo area.
But yeah, I am seriously thinking about going and hear what has to be said about it.

I think that @Acer-m14 has a good idea concerning the electoral college type of voting in NY.
Actually, not only in NY, but other states as well. All 3 states on the west coast for an example.
There are a lot of freedom loving people there that are in the same situation that us freedom loving NYers are in.
If I do happen to go to the event I should ask about the electoral college thing and hear what anyone else has to say about that... Is the EC even doable.? I mean would something like that even have a chance of becoming a reality in NY... IDK
The state of Illinois would be another good example... On their gun forum they bitch about being ruled by Chicago politics and their 2A rights being violated and not having any meaningful representation just like we in NY do.
I just don't think that the city-states would relinquish control over the (so called) peasants in the rural areas.

I think this is a fantastic idea. I would be and I am 100% on board for this to occur.
Shame it will never come to fruition. I think if done correctly, this could and would work out fine for the good parts of NY. The area that would remain NY State would be fucked. The southern, shitty part of NY needs the good part way more than reverse.
