WASHINGTON -- The U.S. government shut down as senators failed to reach a deal on a short-term stopgap budget measure that didn't include any resolution for the rescinded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.That seems to be the driving ambition of the Senate lately. Failure. The Democrats wanted a DACA deal, but it wasn't in the offering. So, they shut down the government. That may be an over-simplification but that's basically the deal. It will be interesting to see how the media spins this, but we know what happened.
As I understand it, DACA expires on March 5, so the Senate has about six weeks to come up with some sort of reasonable solution (not what they consider a reasonable solution) or they lose the whole deal. At that point, the DACA people lose big, and the law reverts to the ore-Obama era .Once the Obama executive orders expire, the DACA people become just another group of illegal aliens who need to be deported, pronto.

I think it has more to do with taking the spotlight of the congressional intelligence committee report and the overwhelming response from the 'informed' public to release that information. This is all sleight of hand by the Democrats to take the spotlight off of Trump's success's on the one year anniversary of his inauguration. They can't handle the fact that the economy, stock market, business climate, etc. is as good as it is when they promised the world was going to end under Trump. They need to distract the sheep somehow from the stark change since Obummer was in office.
