I can get the one at Schunemunk no problem if I was licensed with a Baofeng Uv-82 at 7 watts. Not sure if anything has changed but was trying to connect with Baofang for several months during weekly meeting Orange ham club with limited success. Really think something better than 5W is needed esp given mountainous area.
What do these pot-bellied guys (just kidding) do at the meetings? Are they like nerds or are some of them regular like you.Hamstudy.org. take practice exams until you're scoring 80+ then take exam. Fixed set of questions just need to memorize it. Sad but true. Play the hand you were dealt and all that lol.

I think the best bet is to have both locations equally stocked so that you can stay at either or depending on the circumstances and when traveling to one, you don't have to lug essentials except food, water, and a pistol for the 3 day hike.there some good ideas here, but I have to ask.
I have a BOL and a go bag, but the reality is, if you're bugging out, how many other people are bugging out too. are the roads going to be clogged/jammed. can you get through the traffic? My BOL is 2½ hours away by car at 70mph, I figure thats at least a 3 day walk, assuming nothing bad happens on the way.
my hope is, the SHTF while Im at camp, LOL yep, good luck with that

I think it's best to stay put the first few days anyway to gauge what's going on first. Let everyone else ride the initial panic. You can get there at your leisure.
I bet it would easily take a few days for the roads to clear from the panic. Then depending on what happened, there may be tons of broken down/out of gas vehicles on the highways. I think it's also best to have a vehicle that can get you around closed or congested roads. The average Civic or Grand Caravan is going to be worthless. I'm confident both of our vehicles will get us anywhere if we decide we need to leave the area.I think it's best to stay put the first few days anyway to gauge what's going on first.
