If defending yourself from violence is not a reason to carry, then why bother?
The difference is Strickland escalated the situation by pulling a gun first and pointing it at several people without just cause.
Watch the beginning of the video.Surrounded hardly. I do not see him fully encapsulated at any time. I don't see anyone beating on him. I don't see anyone with a weapon trying to harm him. CritCalt just left a good link. Read it.
I see what youre saying on this matter, Oregon has a duty to retreat but I put the link because this lawyer is an idiot.Surrounded hardly. I do not see him fully encapsulated at any time. The very first seconds of the video show him surrounded and getting sprayed. Look at it again.I watched the video and at no time just before he pulled his gun was he totally surrounded. He was moving in a backwards direction and no one was stopping his rearward movement. Lets call an ace and ace and a SPADE A SPADE. Don't be making up stuff that did not happen.

He says even in your own home you should try to run. He says its ALWAYS a good idea to run from what he calls fake violence.
Typical liberal.

Buy a good set of glasses or come up with a different definition of surrounded.
Surround
verb (used with object)
1.
to enclose on all sides; encompass:
She was surrounded by reporters.
2.
to form an enclosure round; encircle:
A stone wall surrounds the estate.
3.
to enclose (a body of troops, a fort or town, etc.) so as to cut off communication or retreat.
That one doesn't show the guy behind him like the other video does. But who cares? None of this matters. They approach him and spray aerosol in his face. You don't need to be surrounded to defend yourself.
Surrounded.....Yea right

Side note: CCW Safe and other insurances don't kick in unless you pull the trigger. Make sense? No. Not at all. Decide to not use deadly force? No insurance and attorney coverage for you.
In State of Oregon v. Sandoval (2007), the Oregon State Supreme Court affirmed that deadly force is allowable when: “A person reasonably believes another person is using or about to use deadly force against him or her.”If you don't care why have you have been pushing " surrounded? " I do not see him defending himself, I simply see him pointing a weapon at people
without just cause. Had he been assaulted with deadly force he could draw his weapon. READ THE LAW and don't make excuses for some fool
just because your pro second amendment. You need not wonder why no one is backing this guy.

No need to. I believe that he reasonably believed his life was in danger.Great post Will. I do hope you understand the LAW now. If not I would be happy to explain it to you in more detail as to why this fool is behind bars
with no pee-stol.
Because it's always a good idea to take your eyes of a potential threat and go backwards. Or turn and run. What if you fall?I watched the video and at no time just before he pulled his gun was he totally surrounded. He was moving in a backwards direction and no one was stopping his rearward movement. Lets call an ace and ace and a SPADE A SPADE. Don't be making up stuff that did not happen.
Holy crap!! Is this the no shit Sherlock thread???Crit, Anyone who carries a weapon should know the laws pertaining to the use of force and use of deadly force. Many think they are Rambo
when they strap on a gun. It's a big mistake.
Someone that is reasonably in fear for their life (or a potential ass kicking) has every right to defend themselves. It's very easy to sit here on the sideline and say there were no deadly threats there, but we've all seen what the antifa mobs do. Not to mention we only get a few seconds of video before he's unholstered. What happened the prior 5 minutes? He was retreating the whole time and the mob was following him. There were at least a dozen people within the 21 foot radius for the entire video leading up to when he actually drew. The courts always use. " What a reasonable man would do " Now you seem to think just because someone gets into your face it is life threading.
Have you ever been in the service? I doubt it. DI's do this all the time. Next time you see someone wearing a hoodie and carrying flagpole are you going to pull a gun? Yea he was scared of getting his butt kicked but no one touched him other that that white guy earlier. No crime, no assault, just people getting in his face. You are going on the assumption he faced great bodily harm of even death in this situation which is not evident in the video. I always kinda figure if my gun comes out it comes out smoking and I will deal with the consequences later. I saw no deadly threats but perhaps you think that that possibly getting your ass kicked is somehow justification. Perhaps you should tell the fellow with the flagpole never come to a gunfight with a flag. You make assumptions just as he did. I see a airplane at 4000 feet in a nose dive. Does it mean it will crash? Hardly.
We won't know the answer until it occurs. He jumped the gun so to speak and was threatening others with deadly force. A potential ass kicking
is not an excuse for what he did.
Yes. It is. If I go to a Trump rally to exercise my free speech because I deem it important, you best believe it'll be protected by my 2nd.No one disputes having a right to defend. You fail to mention of those 21 people who was the threat? All, One, None. If you think your ass is about to get kicked, pulling a gun before the ass kicking begins just might land you in Jail. Do you suppose he thought of Antifa mobs and the potential danger he might face at a BLM protest? No problem, I have my sidekick on hand ready for any action! Now is that Reasonable?

So pull the gun after the ass kicking commences? Is that your argument?
What law abiding citizen gets into fist fights? I sure as hell don't or ever plan on. If it came down to one, my life would be at danger because I don't know the other's intentions. I'm not going to get shanked or my head caved in with a brick. Plenty of warning would be given by me to back off.Do you think you can legally pull a gun in a simple fist fight because you are loosing. How about someone beating your head in while your laying on the ground. How about someone putting the boot to you? How about someone using a club on you. If you do not know what deadly force or reasonable is you best not carry a weapon.
