Very sparsely populated area. Farms, generational hunters, people who keep to themselves, mostly. Gov regs are a world away.
Where did I say it's OK for felons to have firearms? I know the area from when I lived up near there. It's the way people there think, not necessarily my view. Nice try, anyway. I know some of you guys are here to try to make me look bad, but you can do better, I know that for certain. Weak jabs like that just make YOU look bad.So, your viewpoint from Texas is that it's OK for felons in NY to have firearms as long as they are in what you consider to be "sparsely" populated areas? What about your current neighbors? If they are felons, is that OK?

There are avenues for felons to be able to legally obtain firearms.
I would think that for a white collar crime that long ago he'd be able to obtain a certificate of release to allow for the purchase / possession of firearms.
Looking at older newspaper articles on this guy, he was likely out on early supervised release for previous felony drug and federal felony weapons convictions. Even then he may have already been a frequent ATF and DEA flyer. Suprised he was out and suprised he only had a .22 and a shotgun this time.Must be a lot more to this story.I live about 5 miles from Ancram, and like eagle said, very sparsely populated farm country.I'd like to know what bought him to the feds attention.
yes, But why should they have too. They paid their debt to society. Thats what prison is SUPPOSE to be for. After prison, they should have their rights restored. My only caveat to the "felon thing" is ~~~ was he/she a violent felon
I have an acquaintance that is a convicted felon. 30-40-years ago, He WAS an accountant at a major corporation. The IRS arrested him because the corporation and the IRS said he "was doing something, we can't figure out WHAT he was doing, but we know money is missing and we couldn't track it and we don't know where it is"
what it boiled down to was the IRS told him "we are going to hound you until the end of time, OR you could plead guilty to tax evasion, spend 18 months at Club Fed and be done with it ( and never, ever be an accountant again. and trust me, this guy can add figures in his head faster than any computer can)
He took the plea, went to jail for 18 months. he has been trying to get a shotgun so he can go hunting. NOPE, he's a convicted felon, no gun period, for any reason. He stopped trying to get a firearm 20 years ago.
So child molestors should also get a second shot ?? Just as any other felon. Where is the line to be drawn ?
Therein lies the slippery slope... A white collar class "E" felony for example versus a class "A" violent felony. There's no distinction in the system, it's a felony, period.
So child molestors should also get a second shot ?? Just as any other felon. Where is the line to be drawn ?

The line is drawn between misdemeanors and felonies. You choose to commit a felony, get caught and the consequences are clear. So child molestors should also get a second shot ?? Just as any other felon. Where is the line to be drawn ?
They should never be released and should do life in a metal hospital. Unless of course you believe they are cured. So child molestors should also get a second shot ?? Just as any other felon. Where is the line to be drawn ?
Why is that?In this day and age that's just fucking stupid.
Drugs are victimless crimes. Had they been legal, he wouldn't be a felon like in other countries. But here he is just like you would be if you put a thumbhole stock on your 10/22 but not in PA.I believe it's like drugs, you can't quit the habit. Convicted of a class E felony and one may see their mistake and try something different later that they believe won't get them caught...how many 2nd...3rd...4th offenders. None of US here carry without a permit because we know and respect the consequences. Other's break the law because they don't respect it. My 2 cents is Felons don't need guns.
Why is that?
