When Germany, or Venezuela, or Zimbabwe flush their economy down the drain, you can still buy and sell on the black market with US dollars (which become extra valuable, and frequently illegal in those countries).
When it happens to the US dollar, the entire global economy will be toast.
I'm sure China, the EU, Russia, and Japan will all be trying *real* hard to become the new global reserve currency, but that's not going to be a smooth process.
When that happens global commerce will grind to a halt, and in our new globalized economy, there isn't much that's really just local. Sure you can trade some .22lr to the local farmer for some eggs, but that farmer can't run his tractor without parts from China and fuel from a refinery with parts built in probably every 1st world country in the world.
The whole global infrastructure will collapse, and you can't just reboot the global economy. It will take decades to rebuild. Decades *after* they sort out who is now running things.

Sometimes I wonder. If prices did skyrocket, if the "government" would step in and say they'd fix the prices to prevent "gouging" and do a soft implement of socialism.

Now if the republicans hold the Senate in GA they MIGHT stop this but Joe will do all sorts of harm else were. Green Deal, well Bernie Sanders said it will be paid for by taxing fossil fuels. Want to see gas tax go up 5 dollars so gas is around $7.50 a gallon. it will happen over 2 years BUT it will go that high. Tax on natural gas, electricity. Joe will keep his promise I wont raise INCOME taxes on anyone that earns less than 400K, He doesn't need too, try taxing in other ways like fossils fuels. Many ways, want to get a passport, well that has this new tax of 300, need a federal permit of some type another I got you tax. Many ways to tax other than income tax.
We are headed for really bad times.
