Not sure how much more you want to write, but for Oneida County: some are issues without restrictions and therefore no need to remove. Just my experience.

Clinton County up in the Northeast corner should be orange. They issue with a hunting, trapping, or target shooting restriction printed on it in red. Haven't tried getting it removed, as I carry a small paper target in my wallet at all times. "Yes, officer, I WAS just target practicing".

I understand Dutchess gets good feedback as a GREEN on the map, but we are so close to the lower Hudson Valley I do worry that a few retirements or judge rotations, or a poor voter turn-out could royally mess things up. It does look like our long term Sheriff (and my local 2A hero) is grooming a pro 2A replacement but it is an elected position and the County is not as Red as it used to be. Although it varies with demand cycles, Dutchess has been giving people finger print appointments 9 months out (about the same length of time it takes for two lazy people to create a baby from scratch) from dropping off their applications and then the clock starts for application reviews, searches, and approvals. I would imagine any permit or amendment rush because of the election cycle would stretch the time frame farther out. It would be great if we we could find a straight forward way to track various counties lag times for permits or amendments in real time as our environment evolves. So although the grass may be greener in Dutchess county we do sort of have a summer drought going on.
Even if various counties did possibly allow a system to be put in place that would allow applicants to see where they were at in the process, I am certain that NY state would somehow stop it.
Why? Because it would clearly demonstrate how fucked up and unlawful the process is in different counties. Section 400 of the NY Penal Law gives them 6 months. That is routinely broken by multiple counties!

You should throw in the length of time it takes.
This will all show how capricious and arbitrary the whole thing is.
I also like how you say "Pretty easy to get" Erie County is where I got mine.

Otsego county is green.Very easy to get and no restrictions.Just get three references,finger prints and photo,pay the hundred buck and wait a few months to get it.I have not heard of any restrictions here in years and years

Cortland County was green two years ago when my FIL got his, don't know if it has changed.
updated. We've talked about creating a pistol permit database that would be searchable by county, time taken to get permit, etc.

Seems like Orange County mostly gives unrestricted. I know several people with CCW's here (including one with an assault charge from many years ago and he's unrestricted) and only one has administrative restrictions.

It isn't too hard to get it unrestricted eventually, but initially it is most often issued with restrictions. Probably 75% of the time the permits issued are restricted.
Based on your key, green appears to indicate no restrictions right out of the gate, which isn't the case in Erie.

Last I knew:
Broome should be yellow. Theyre issued restricted, but if you take the class and write a letter to the judge, you may have your restrictions lifted
Chenango county: I believe they are issued without restricted, but you have to complete a safety course within a year or they may put restrictions on it.

I'm curious what you base that on. The delays in the Erie County Pistol Permit Office are ridiculous (taking months to complete background checks, when realistically, they can be completed online in less than a day; and then burying the files for months until they get around to them...).
But it has been my experience, and that of most other permit holders I know that they have gotten Unrestricted out of the gate when requested. I am aware of a couple of people who got Restricted, but they had ongoing issues with the police being called on them repeatedly because of neighbor complaints. Also, I know that when people with restricted have applied to have them removed after a year, that they are generally granted. I can think of about 10 or 11 people I know who applied,- all but two got Unrestricted from Judge Boller.
I know for a fact that Judge Boller is most definitely NOT anti gun. He is, however, not one to look favorably upon someone who tries to feed him a pile of bullshit.
As for Erie being Green or Yellow, I suppose it's a close call and depends on your specific experience. Maybe others can chime in on their experiences as well.
Perhaps we could change the Yellow description to read "Permit may come with restrictions" rather than "Permit usually comes with restrictions". I think that might be more accurate.

Nice map. I am, unfortunately, stuck in the middle of the bright red Suffolk. If I can't move out of NY for a while at least I know what counties to look into.

Suffolk should be orange. I know guys at work from there that have a carry license and they're restricted with the standard stuff I hear referred to as "sportsman" all the time.

May want to use a an even deeper colored orange for Westchester, Lifting restrictions without a justifiable reason is dam near impossible unless you know the right people.

Erie is strange. Many people have been upgraded after a couple of years by simply applying for the upgrade (no charge). My wife got hers right off the bat being a simple business owner. Not all but some, many with the upgrade process.

True. But even in 1995 I needed a special "reason" and had to go in front of a Judge to explain, to receive my full carry, which I did and got. But by those standards we Put peeps would've been Yellowish/Red lol

The 5 counties of NYC should be different than Nassau and Suffolk. Nassau and Suffolk actually issue carry permits, but with a to/from range only administrative restriction. NYC ONLY PREMISE with range permission.
