That could be an awesome place if they got their shit together. I used to like going in and just spending an hour walking around and looking at all of the guns and gadgets. I recently saw a Glock 19 Gen 5 MOS in the case for something like $750. I couldn’t believe it. Also they didn’t put quite as much effort into that department as they should have. I’ve seen other Cabelas with huge gun counters with hundreds and hundreds of pistols. Maybe they figured they’d scale it down being NY and how hard it is to get a pistol. They took out the restaurant and some other stuff it used to have too. Seems like they are going downhill. Too bad.

That store is a joke. The whole sign in log is BS and they way they want you to sign up I will never do. Yeah it used to take hours to look through what they have, but now it takes seconds honestly. There is next to nothing in that store now.
They have inventory in the cabelas/bass pro shop because in June I stopped in at the auburn store on our anniversary trip and they were stocked to the gills. I’m not sure why they have no inventory there and yes they are very expensive at this point.

I asked at bass pro if the had any semi-auto rifles in 556. I was told no because they are a hunting/fishing store ands SA 556 isn’t for hunting. The guy chuckled at the other salesman like a asked a totally stupid question. So I asked him what does he hunt with that 38 snub nose and walked away.

The fudd attitude is very strong in NY. Seems like so many gun owners, gun stores, and gun clubs here in NY hate anything that isn’t a trap/skeet shotgun, 22LR rifle or pistol, bolt action rifle, revolver or 1911. If it doesn’t fit that criteria it’s viewed as not needed.
last time I went to the range and shot my HK USP45 there was some Fudds going on about it was one of those polymer guns that isn’t as good or as reliable as their colt 1911 in 45. Good grief.

Would confetti in an explosive cartridge work the same as a taser? I’d think no since taser shoot by compressed gas and not explosive powder, but there are smarter people than me. Couple of years ago my wife took me to the Gun Center (Buffalo) for my birthday. We were looking for a double barrel coach gun. Rob handed me a Stoeger nickel plated then says to me, "Deplorable you didn't tell me your wife was so gorgeous". My wife was blushing. Rob is normally a grouchy miserable bastard and this was pretty funny coming from him. (Rob and I have bitched at one another for years.) My wife has no idea how much she paid for that shotgun.

1) in '95 when I bought my 629 Classic 44mag at Creekside Gun's. the "salesman" took the gun out of the case. fondled it lovingly, cocked the hammer, held it up to his ear and pulled the trigger, then looked me in the eyes and said "Yep, thats about a 4 pound pull" ~~~ I looked at the other sales guy with my best "are you fucking kidding me look" ~~~ the the mental midget did it a second time. Opened the cylinder, fondled the gun some more, cocked it, held it up to his ear and pulled the trigger and said "that is one smooth 4 pound pull" ~~~ I looked the other sales guy again with that incredulous look, my wife even started to giggle. I said, "interesting, I think I've seen enough". The Other sales guy came over, took the gun from Mr mental midget and said, "why don't you go get a cup of coffee, I'll put this away" Mental midget seemed very pleased with that idea and walked away. The Other sales guy, said, "I'm sorry about that, he really means well, I'll tell you what, do you like the gun" I said "yes, thats the only reason I came here was to buy the S&W 629", he said " I'll knock $40 bucks off if you buy it today" I said "DEAL"
#2) I was at Beikirchs and bought a Mark 22/45 for the Admiral, the guy ( I think it was Dave, or maybe Paul?) made the call to the NICS, and came back with DENIED? I was like "How the freak'n hell could that be, I've had a Pistol permit for 20 years, now Im denied? He said, hang on, give me 5 minutes. I was kinda in a panic. things run through your head like, did I get put on a list, I wonder if I can fly, blah,blah,blah. he made a second call, and it went through. I gave him the old "WTF look" and he just smiled and said, shit happen, we just call a couple time before it goes through. I was like? why bother, he said exactly, LOL

My Friends are a retired couple, worked hard and had it hard pretty much all their lives, conservative, kept to themselves, would probably shoot you dead for walking across their property at night, well, they wanted to open a Gun Shop for a retirement project and to have something to leave their Son and I agreed to help set it up, stock it, and provide technical expertise; The very first thing I told them was they were going to see some of the stupidest, fucked up, know-it-all people imaginable, that guns would come in that should go right in the dumpster and that the owner would want them cleaned or repaired, people that would smell horrible with manners even worse, ones that would want to open boxes of ammunition just to see what they looked like, and sooner or later ones that you just have to tell to get the fuck out of my Shop and don't come back.....Three years later ALL those things have come to fruition.
I think the first crazy thing I heard in a Shop was in the 80's when the "Wonder Nine" came out; Everybody wanted a 9mm (Because that's what the Army started using, and gotta be able to use Battle Field picked up ammo) Well this guy came in and wanted a 9mm Camp Carbine and the Clerk told him they didn't have one they were hard to get, but the guy wanted something right now, so the Clerk offered up a M1 Carbine and the guy scoffed "that thirty carbine was shit, its go no stopping power like the 9mm does." Being the know-it-all I was, I tried to explain that a 110 grain, .308 diameter bullet traveling 1,900 feet per second was a hell of a lot more powerful than a 115 grain .355 going 1,200fps....at least the Dog understood it.

By the time you get to wife #3, it changes a bit. I have mine she has hers and never the two shall mix. She has all my passwords but I pay all the bills for maintaining the house and home. She pays the bills she makes, car, credit card etc.
Back on topic. I have seen and heard a lot of dumb stuff in a gun store. My buddy and I call the people espousing them woodchucks. I have seen guys come in and say I am looking for a gun for the wife. I would always ask where is she? Then go on to ask what kind of experience with guns she has and has she picked one out? Most of the time the answers were at home, none and no. If their wife was out in the car I would recommend they bring her in so she could handle a few to see what fits her hand.
a lot of these guys are looking for the cheapest pos they can find for her. I just have to shake my head and ask myself, “why would you want to give the love of your life a cheap pos which you won’t taker her to the range to practice with or show her how to use?”
I really love to hear the stories about how they handed their non gun experienced girlfriend a 44 mag to fire for the first time firing a gun. Those guys are Nobel prize material.
