Erie Permit Timelines redux

Any updates out there on Erie Co. timelines? My paperwork has been in since the beginning of August 2016.

Been there, done that. Got on their shit list when I complained about the time when I applied a few years ago. I know someone else in almost the same boat at present (1 month longer than you), and they were told by the PPO when they called that their app was "in the stack of 1,000 waiting to go to the judge"...

According to an ad for Steve Cichon who is running for Erie County Clerk (he would then be the boss over the PPO), it claimed that permits are currently running between 18-24 months, - and he promises to fix that! I don't doubt that they are taking that long at present.

I think somebody posted a little while ago that their son's went through in about 10 months. Haven't heard anything else. It is total BS, and the patience wears thin after a while. You should hear something soon I'm sure, being over 14 months in.

At least Steve Cichon lays out a plan. Not sure I agree with him on a bunch of other issues, but Kearn's "fix" is 3 bullet (no pun intended) points. I am in the home stretch (almost 17 months) but a satellite office would be nice in the future again so that we don't have to go downtown every time we want to add another handgun to our permit.

I won't disagree with you. I think that nothing short of a lawsuit will ever change the situation. AND,- the cold hard truth is that NO ONE who has an application pending will do that because THEY do not want to end up on the shit list, - or worse, to potentially be denied. Then again, if someone with a perfect background, AND, a justifiable need were to actually file a lawsuit, NY would simply make the suit go away by granting a more timely decision in their specific case. No case ='s no standing to continue lawsuit, and no court decision that could rule against NY / Erie County PPO, and force changes for future applicants.

In my case, I made their shit list for complaining about the time they take. I was told that my background checks would take months to complete (thus the reason for the 12-18 month wait time supposedly). Several years later, I obtained a copy of my pistol permit file under FOIA through the Clerk's Office FOIA officer. The PPO had told me that my checks took over 6 months. The documentation in my file showed that the checks were completed using the NYSPIN database WITHIN TWO DAYS of my application being turned in at the PPO, and that they then just buried my file away for months afterward... The same garbage is very, very likely going on today.

So, no, I don't see things ever changing either! I believe it is a definite attitude against granting CCW permits on some level. That, and maybe they are just trying everyone's "patience" to be certain we have the "right mental attitude" to be granted the permit at all.

I've met Kearns, and I have also stood back and watched and listened as he schmoozed and BS'd some fellow permit holders. He strikes me as a player who will do and say whatever seems best at the time to get himself elected, and reelected, and reelected again.

Kearns may have the RINO line, and Cichon the Dem line, but after seeing Kearns spew his BS, I'm inclined to give political NOOB Cichon a chance. I mean, - how much worse can it get at the PPO? It's already up to 24 months...

I just found out that someone I know from the City of Buffalo who applied in July 2016 just received theirs. So, that took them about 15 months. Also, they only applied for Target & Hunting (by mistake, - confused by poor instructor when they took the course), and that is what they got.

So now, I'm guessing they will have to wait about 1 year before applying for an upgrade? Of course, then you have to fill out the attached affidavit, and come up with a good reason for getting unrestricted... if they had used a competent instructor when they applied, they would not need to go through this BS AGAIN! And then, they can wait a few more months for that request to be considered, - and hopefully approved!

Same thing here. Was told not to put self defense, and lo and behold, mine's restricted.

I wasn't even aware there was a form to fill out. Hopefully, the fact that I have a rental property and always have to physically go pick up the rent monies is reason enough.

That's why you need to keep copies of everything you submit, as well as a written log of dates and actions taken, and the names of those involved.

Although they run with paper files there, I know they do also keep records on computer. When I initially applied and was getting jerked around (the office was being run under Wilmer Fowler at the time), I checked on the status of my application, and was told "What application? We have no record of you having applied." I immediately went over their heads to Ms. Peggy LaGree, Atty, and #2 in the EC clerks office next door, and presented her with a complete copy of my application. She walked next door with me, and into Wil's office, and confronted him.

Lo and behold, Wil logged onto his desktop PC, and suddenly "found" my file, and my application in the computer files... So, yes, they can and do fuck with people. I'd be very tempted if I were you, to approach Allen Brown with my copies in hand, and ask him to double check his electronic files. In any case, at the very least, if you can prove that it is their fault, and not yours, I would tell him that in order to make it right, that they need to "resubmit" your upgrade application and process it in the original timeframe, and to NOT simply treat it like it is just now being submitted. If you don't get any satisfaction, and if you believe you are right and can prove it, I'd be tempted to walk next door and ask Ms. Peggy LaGree for some assistance.
