Finally addressed the baffling lack of a .22 pistol in my small collection.

Ruger Mk IV hunter blued version 'cos I am not particularly fond of shiny guns.
I had been planning on getting the Target model but when I saw this blued Hunter model in my LGS I opted for it instead. It has the fiber optic front sight which is nice and the fluted barrel and aluminum frame is a bit lighter which is also a plus for me.
I like the standard style frame as opposed to the 22/45 frame which I know is lighter still, especially in the 45 target Lite version.
The standard style is more distinctive IMO.
Changes/upgrades-
Gonna remove the offside safety lever which rests somewhat uncomfortably against my trigger finger when disengaged.
Probably gonna get the Volquartsen trigger kit as I am not very impressed by the factory trigger and I will eventually get a Lobos lo-pro red dot mount for when I am ready to go that route.
It would also be really nice if I could find someone offering a checkering service for the front and rear straps.

All that said, my initial impressions as is?

Uh.... "settle" for a Model 41? Finest .22 pistol made innit? I picked the Mk IV Hunter because I wanted something classy and nice but at a relatively modest price, had I the budget for it I would be over the moon for a 41. If the Ruger ignites the .22LR flame in me perhaps someday a Model 41 will grace my collection.
Next purchase however will be a 10/22 Target Lite to serve as a companion to the Hunter. That Model of 10/22 sits in the same place in the lineup as the Hunter does in the Mk IV lineup, both cost a very similar amount.

@dsdmmat, I have a line on a new range facility very near to me and once a membership is secured these two Rugers will feature regularly in the E-Matches.

The Federal I inherited from my father years ago.
He had a Mk III Hunter actually, stainless steel type. Unfortunately I was still living in NY when he passed and I was unable to take possession of it and had to sell it instead. I took the ammo though. I have had it for years now.

I have not known Ruger 22 pistols to be fussy about ammo, my old Ruger mkll eats anything. I do like using my S&W M&P for steel and have narrowed it down to using only CC-I Mini Mags. Have fun with the new Ruger it's all about trigger time!

Go get one! They aren't super expensive ........not cheap, but reasonable. I was $624 out the door I think.

I originally wanted the tactical version, but couldn't find one. I found the 10" bbl target version and liked it so I went with that. Yeah, but it's the most comprehensive range in the area and it's only 5 miles from my home and it's only $50 a year and they have a lot of events, classes and leagues.

Noooooo....nothing wrong with more capacity. You can have 10rnd mags for the purpose you'd need them for and then different mags with more rounds for something else. I'm with you on the suppressor. It's the reason I bought the 3.5" upper. I have a KAW Valley linear comp on it as a stand in for a suppressor.

At some point I suppose. 4 guns are on my short list, the Mk IV I just got, the 10/22 Target Lite, an S&W 587 and one of those Miroku built Winchester 1873s, in .357.
Doing the whole pistol/rifle pair thing. A Ruger PC Carbine might find it's way into the middle of that list too.

Noooooo....nothing wrong with more capacity. You can have 10rnd mags for the purpose you'd need them for and then different mags with more rounds for something else. I'm with you on the suppressor. They did have a Kel-Tec CP33 on the shelf. I nevertheless opted for the Ruger. I decided awhile ago what I was looking for in a .22 pistol was a purely recreational gun so style and class was more important than things like capacity and similar form and function to a duty gun.
Though I can see taking a Mk IV on a woods walk, terrorizing squirrels and rabbits also.

Yeah, I'm gonna run the irons for awhile also. The sights are extremely good, fully adjustable, very crisp sight picture with the perfect amount of daylight between post and notch. However my close up vision seems to be getting worse and worse by the day! You should see me try to read a menu or something, I am running out of arm length over here, toggling between the print being either too small or too fuzzy. I swear, I hit my mid 40s and my body decided to just start phoning it in.

I have the same gun. I put a Primary Arms MD-RBGII red dot on it. The thing is a tack driver and eats any ammo I feed it without hiccups.

Welp, I fucked up. I was removing the offside safety and replacing it with the spacer, got everything back together but noticed the slide release lost all tension. While trying to figure that out the magazine ejector assist came loose and the plunger and spring went bye bye. I found tge spring but I'll bever find that little plunger. That at least is easy to fix, anyone have any idea why the bolt release lost it's tension?

I always tell newbies to use a large clear plastic bag to disassemble pistols in, when not sure what they are doing just sayin LOL!!

I'm trying to remember, but I don't think there is a spring involved with the bolt release. The tension may seem different depending on how tight or loose the grip panel is on that side.
