Nice Mark IV , you’re gonna love that thing. I’ve had my 7” MK. II for more than 25 yrs and she still runs like a champ.

I actually found the elusive little plunger, re-installed it and figured out what the issue with the bolt release: there was no issue, it normally flops around with without a magazine inserted.

I get it, I dropped over 150 on grips for my wife's SW22 that she hasn't tried yet. I bought them out of guilt (with a carbon fiber barrel and votex optics) when she commented that the Model 41 was too heavy for her to shoot more than a handful of mags.

I figured there wasn't any spring for the bolt release. I got mine out and looked. The tightness of the grip panel (at least on mine with aftermarket grips) will effect the swing of the bolt release. The bolt release is another Volquartsen upgrade I'd recommend. It's much easier to manipulate than the oem one.

My LGS has found and ordered the companion 10/22 Target Lite. There by the end of next week they say. Frankly I was expecting a lengthy wait, in which I had time to save up the money. Oh well, into the reckless gun purchasing breach I shall go.

Yeah, while banning ANY gun is bullshit, it is especially ridiculous to ban a 10/22 because of a thumbhole stock. Threaded barrel too I know.
One upgrade that is a must is the auto bolt release, you can do it yourself ( videos on YouTube ) or buy the VQ for a few $
I'm not sure if that model incorporates that improvement or not. It has the Ruger BX trigger, I know that much.
I have yet to see one that came from the factory with the auto bolt-release.

I'd like to get an M&P 22lr pistol for cheaper practice with a pistol that is closer to how my Shield is but it's gonna have to take a number. I have so many other guns I'd like to get first. I think an Ak Is next, but it might be a bit before that happens.
I have both full size and compact, and like both of them but they can be fussy about ammo I found mini mags to be the best so tnat is all I shoot in them. The compact may not look much like the Shield but it feels just like it in my hand. I really wasn't looking for one but a LGS had it as a black Friday deal for $299.00.
I've had a number of Mark IIIs through the years, including a 50th Anniversary (1999) and a bull barrel 22/45 that a student gave to me years ago. That one I installed a Majestic Arms take down kit that allowed you to unscrew a hex head bolt to remove the bolt for cleaning. Always hated reassembly. For years I semi lusted for the SS fluted barrel Hunter but never bought one. When my friend oldest, craziest friend Joe The Dick Head died, he left me his Mark III Hunter. He had added a.Volquartsen target trigger, target hammer and accurizing kit.

Yeah, so many guns, such little budget. After I recover from my dreadfull overspending on the Ruger .22 siblings next items on the short list are a S&W 586 and a Winchester (Miroku) 1873. Then I really should get a nice 1911. I have apparently decided that I have enough tactical black guns for the moment.
As for AKs......... with the import ban of Russian ammo driving up prices of 7.62x39 to domestic centfire levels my hankering for AKs has diminished significantly. However 5.56 AKs have gotten my attention. The Zastava 5.56 offering is appealing.
I noticed a 5.56 Galil Ace carbine on the wall of my LGS too. The Ace IMO still represents the pinnacle of the Kalashnikovs.
My father had a Mk III Hunter stainless, beautiful pistol. When he passed it was bequeathed to me but as I was still in NY I couldn't take possession of it. Still sitting in a locker somewhere I assume. He said he had it in storage at a shop, or range or somesuch,, I can't remember. I do remember he tried disassembling it once and got so turned around during the process he took it to a gunsmith to have it sorted out. If he were still around it'd be fun to show him the Mk IV, see how easy disassembly is now.
Hey @Podmonkey I just watch this today may be even better then the auto-bolt release I mentioned earlier.

In the early/mid 80s, I had two. 6.5" tapered barrel and a 5" bull barrel. That 5" was an accurate shooter.
Like an idiot, I let both of them go. Been regretting it ever since
