First time carrying? Do the Wally Walk!

This is an old "map" but I came across it again the other day.

Where was the first place that you carried?

I think mine was actually Walmart. I remember being so nervous and checking to make sure the gun was still there every couple of minutes. I was SUPER aware and kept scanning around. Now, carrying is a completely normal occurrence.

First time I carried was probably one of those silly gun-free zones I keep reading about. If I want to watch Bridget Jones' and sit on my heater, well then let me damn it.

My first time carrying as a Permit Holder, I think I went into to Gander. Figured that would be a safe place to try it out. I do remember I was so aware that I had a concealed gun, I am sure every customer was as well.

In the Army, I carried all the time, part of the uniform, nothing to hide; easy. First time as a CCW, seemed like hell!

Movie theater. Had one of my P99s and you bet I kept checking to make sure that striker did not cock itself in the holster. Nope. And then everywhere else. My favorite was when I bought my .308 at Dicks and had to be walked out "for safety reasons", with my G26 on my hip.

When I first started at Gander, the management wanted us to walk the customer out as well. One day we were talking and it was mentioned that many, if not most, of our customers had a handgun on them at the time of purchase. She was amazed at that. The policy ended pretty quick.

I was carrying my revolver in a grocery bag to go buy a holster so I could conceal carry. Ironically I put it in the bag because the cheap holster I first bought made me feel unsafe.

Mine was to the range and a gas station afterward. Had to put some air in the tires and I figured out that the elastic on the bottom of a sweatshirt won't catch on the muzzle like I thought it would. Rides up and over like nothing when you bend over.

Me too. 1983 to be exact. Strapped up in the gunstore after picking up my first handgun, and carried it all over the rest of day. Cant recall where I went , but might have worn in to bed that night also...(kidding).........

When I finally popped my CC cherry I was with mom and dad having dinner at a nice Italian restaurant (they had no idea I was CCing). Then off to Wal Mart ironically enough. Again, no one was aware. But like most here I was fidgeting a lot and worried about printing big time, even though I was wearing an extra baggy and long shirt to keep it covered.

When you think about it, carrying your pistol concealed for the first time sure is a lot like you first time having sex. It's awkward, your heart is racing, you're sweaty, worried that you might get caught/people will see you and before you know it the whole thing is over. You also want to do it again as soon as possible.

At work I believe , just carried my gun and didn't bother me was not nervous at all. Had my permit and I was good to go.

Don't remember the first time but I do remember wearing my Crossbreed holster out in public before I got my permit as a warm up. I felt like I had a tumor on my body when the gun was in it in the beginning. Now, I feel weird without it.

Not sure, but more than likely to my gun club. I don't remember much after that when it comes to CCing.

I have to say that it feels strange when I OC down here when working in the gun shop. I've just never been a big fan of it, but it makes sense in the shop.
There are a few of the older Fellas that stop in regularly that have some nice wheelies hanging on their hip. It really is no big deal down here, just not for me.

Went to see a concert at a local park. It definitely felt strange with it tucked in my waist, especially when I was standing there talking with one of the local cops that was on duty and in uniform. LOL.

I wasn't remotely nervous. I carried at work the day after. No reason to be nervous that I can think of.

I picked up my pistol at the gun shop, got in my truck, loaded and racked one in the chamber, topped off the mag and went about my business. May or June of 2013. I never leave home without it. It helps that I can carry at work. I do remember being at Lowe's and reaching up to get something and totally exposing the glock. Realized quickly that most people are oblivious.

No one knows I'm carrying. I've had my gun on all day many times then my wife will put her hand on my back and just look at me and say seriously. I say I told you I was bringing it everywhere. She's accepted that and now is glad to have me with a gun around her. She feels unsafe if I travel for work and I'm not at home at night. I keep telling her get her permit and I'd buy her any gun she wanted. Always says do you know me I do t want a gun.

By normal, I hope you mean you are still at least very aware and that scanning and assessing have become part of your normal routine.

I first carried out of the pawn shop / gun store wherein I bought an R&G 25 Auto and out onto the streets of Las Vegas, as I recall that was in 1977. That was also the year I got my first driver's license, also in Vegas.

I've finally convinced my wife to get her permit. She says she doesn't really want her own gun. She just wants to be able to shoot mine (and probably make me buy the ammo). Maybe a pink camo .22 or something like that is in her future.

If nothing else, having her own permit would be good if anything happened to you. She would be able to keep them in her possession.

Walking down the street is when I first did it. LCR in back pocket. I could have had it open carrying and these city folks wouldnt have known.
