Right..... I think you were wrong again! Wrong like that time you had a white AR made. The badge is not a permit like you kept saying. Joking aside that explanation is what I thought happened when I said carrying on a badge. It just explained the forms filed ect. I didn't know the form names or care. I don't think anyone thought carrying on a badge meant anything else. The guns are registered, just differently.Correct. We were trying to keep things simple for others here.
Yes. The city felt bad so they gave him shiny sticker also.Did he get it yet?!?!? eight pages, whew, I think we are in round 7 already!

When the Office of Ct Adm took over the courts up north, the courts were manned with local pd's and sheriffs.I suppose when these officers were offered to be "grandfathered" and made court officers they were allowed to hold permits if their dept let them before the takeover.I know that any sheriffs etc As for things being done that "transferred" over to become court officers were not put thru the usual investigation process, which is where new court officers are told to surrender their permits.Just to be clear,a cop or peace officer doesnt "carry on their badge" as you guys keep saying. As a police or peace officer you are exempt from weapons laws.In the case of NYS peace officers and state troopers, you buy a gun, file a "C" form with the state police and the gun is on a C form, not your badge.I think NYPD is somewhat different, but the same idea,as a police officer you are exempt from the laws regarding weapons. There were no "long gun forms",when they were trying to find out who had what long guns I got a memo from the cheif's office to have all officers give me a list of all long guns and a copy of all "C" forms for handguns. These officers you spoke to may have permits, but they werent told "not to put it on their badge",they filed C forms, which could be viewed as "putting it on their badge".As far as "having things being handled so differently in the same org.",you'd be amazed how things are handled from county to county within the court system, even within NYC,I would get transfers from Bklyn to Manhattan and have to "re-train" them.It used to be called the "Office of court adm",changed to the "Unified Court System",its anything but "unified".
One would think they don't have control over a permit. They sure do here. One word to the judge from a supervisor and they yank the permit. You can see a couple of court offices walking around with empty holsters at any time around here. It's pretty embarrassing. They send someone to the house and take all handguns. It could be a false report from a crazy ex (I'm sure you have encountered that as a Lt. in your 30 years). Again it's so weird that they still have permits here. Seems like it's kind of unorganized in this county. We still have paper permits and they data is stored on index cards at the Sheriffs ID office by the way. Were you issued a g19 or did you have to buy it? Not to pick on your age.... but what did court officers carry before the glock? Model 10?OK,I left out county security,my bad.In any case the courts are now manned by Uniformed Court Officers and,I believe, are no longer manned by any of the above,PD,sheriff, etc maybe some still are,but I dont know of any.It was a gradual takeover and started I believe with the 9th JD and continued throughout the state in each different JDover a few years.Bottom line is,if you take the Court Officer test and are hired off the street as a Court Officer the investigator will ask and tell you that UCS does not want/allow you to keep a pistol license, and in NYC a rifle permit. They do this because they are the ones indemnifying you and if they determine you can no longer carry a firearm, usually as a disciplinary action, they dont have easy control over your permit.

Apparently these counties havent been fully taken over yet,but will one day.My mistake, sorry.Monroe, Ontario, Yates, Livingston, Seneca, Wayne. Courthouse security is still provided by the Sheriff's Office. In most cases, they are sworn as police officers per CPL 1.20 33b
