No,you are "incorrect".I am not in the city anymore.I was a court officer in Manhattan for 30 yrs,if your shooting buddies are holding NYS pistol permits,they are doing so against dept regs.As for the long guns,about 10 yrs ago, they were trying to straighten out the firearms records.Apparently nobody kept all the "C" forms in any central file,only copies besides the what state police had were kept in the personel files in each command.I was the one who coordinated and sent the "C" forms in from my command.I was instructed to have all the officers in my command fill out a form listing all firearms,including rifles.Any of my officers that listed rifles or shotguns were enlightened and given the opportunity to fill out another list.Incorrect (upstate anyway). Court officers have permits and can have pistols on them that are not used for employment. I shoot with a bunch of them. They all have their work G19 on a permit. I know a couple that had their duty guns taken away after getting in trouble (later returned) they also tried to take all shotguns and rifles but were told to F themselves with those. Are you in the city?

.The rifle thing became an issue when an officer passed away and we were sent to retrieve his firearms.His firearms were taken away for disciplinary reasons some time before.He had no known family and lived alone.When we got the call from his landlord he said there were a "lot" of guns in the apt.He had like 25 long guns.Some real nice ones.The administration freaked out when they heard that.So they decided they wanted everybody to list all long guns as well.Dont know about anyplace else but my command "saw the light".As for "I'm out" that was pertaining to this whole silly argument.

Just talked to two court officers up here. They said they have permits and were actually told if they want to carry to get the restrictions taken off the permits. They don't want people carrying on their badge here. These guys were also grandfathered in from the county (county security had permits). They had to go buy the G19 on their permits before they were transitioned to the state. They have never been told to put it on the badge and get rid of the permit. The judges lift the restrictions for all the court officers (if they request it). A couple of guys I know had their work guns taken. Sgt came right to the house and took them. The judge revoked the permit until things were cleared up and he later re-issued it. Odd to have things handled so differently in the same organization. As for long gun forms.. When I asked they said "wtf are those"? These are upstate country boys. When the Office of Ct Adm took over the courts up north,the courts were manned with local pd's and sheriffs.I suppose when these officers were offered to be "grandfathered" and made court officers they were allowed to hold permits if their dept let them before the takeover.I know that any sheriffs etc As for things being done that "transferred" over to become court officers were not put thru the usual investigation process,which is where new court officers are told to surrender their permits.Just to be clear,a cop or peace officer doesnt "carry on their badge" as you guys keep saying.As a police or peace officer you are exempt from weapons laws.In the case of NYS peace officers and state troopers,you buy a gun,file a "C" form with the state police and the gun is on a C form,not your badge.I think NYPD is somewhat different,but the same idea,as a police officer you are exempt from the laws regarding weapons.There were no "long gun forms",when they were trying to find out who had what long guns I got a memo from the cheif's office to have all officers give me a list of all long guns and a copy of all "C" forms for handguns.These officers you spoke to may have permits,but they werent told "not to put it on their badge",they filed C forms,which could be viewed as "putting it on their badge".As far as "having things being handled so differently in the same org.",you'd be amazed how things are handled from county to county within the court system,even within NYC,I would get transfers from Bklyn to Manhattan and have to "re-train" them.It used to be called the "Office of court adm",changed to the "Unified Court System",its anything but "unified".

I'm sure in your 30 years, you learned quite a bit of law unless you slept with your eyes open in those courtrooms and we happen to be short a retired court officer so here it goes.
