Plant basil with your tomatoes to keep out the horn worm. What little I plant of vegetables they are all in containers. I have rubbermaid water troughs and storage containers.
2 years ago I tried beets in the storage containers and I’m not growing them again. What would you suggest for these containers? They are 30x18x15” deep.
The water troughs will have tomatoes and zucchini. I have 10 5gal buckets for potatoes

Try a few again and see what happens if you love them. Try a different variety and make sure you weren’t lacking a nutrient.@Acer-m14 i only got a couple beets at a time and they were small. To much work to cook for 1-3 small beets. Problem is I love beets so I was hopeful
Yes you will need irrigation. I’m doing irrigation this year. I may put an inline carbon filter on for chlorine removal.I made my first tax exempt purchase today. Ordered some cherry trees. Totally diggin the taxevasionsavings.
Got about 1000 seeds in trays already. Still have a bunch of trays to go. I can direct sow most cool weather plants mid-march, and start transplanting other things around April 15th.
I'm going to need an irrigation system. No way I'm watering all this by hand.
Just 2 weeks ago, it was 5x more. Sure does get worse fast, even in the middle of winter time. Amazing.
If you like fresh greens you could grow a ton of herbs and lettuce greens in those containers. Don’t give up on the beets. Try a different variety maybe? I’ve had excellent results growing the Detroit dark red variety. Make sure that your soil is rich with compost. What little I plant of vegetables they are all in containers. Might take a bit longer if the house is cooler. Also interwebs say 14-21 day germination time. Be patient grasshopper.I got some Celery seeds in a pot in the house ..
been a week so far and nothing poking up out of the dirt yet ..
Grrrrrrr
Nice, up until now I didn’t know anyone else that knew about Western sand cherries except for a friend of mine. They can get to be a decent sized shrub or they can be tamed by pruning to maintain shape. A buddy of mine has them for a garden hedgerow. They do attract a ton of birds though !I bought some western sand cherries today, seed potatoes, and some gooseberries.
Just go to your local tractor supply since I bought them on the way home from your house last night!!I had never heard of the Western sand cherry. I really enjoy planting just about anything that produces edible berry's and this looks like a good candidate!!!!! Thanks fellows.
Robin
I never heard of them either. I bought that dust collector from Robin last night and my wife needed some rabbit pellets from tractor supply so we stopped in. I saw them and was thinking of getting a cherry and these drew my eye. I did the quick google search and was like oh that’s nice. As for the birds my wife loves birds. I bought two bushes so I’ll cover one for me and leave the other for the birds. My other cherry tree never pollinated because it bloomed too early and no bees were every out so hopefully these will be different.Nice, up until now I didn’t know anyone else that knew about Western sand cherries except for a friend of mine. These ones say they are dormant and can be planted as soon as the ground is workable. I have them in an unheated hall to keep them dormant for a few more weeks if I can.Way too cold to be thinking of planting anything yet. Temps at night still well below freezing. We finally broke into the low 30’s for a high today. The couple of Tractor Supply stores near me don’t even order plants for another month or so yet.
Yikes. I was on a quick mission and it was kind of last minute. I saw an opportunity to grab something I needed from Robin and took it. I didn’t even hang around long to look at Robin’s beautifully made rifles and they are gorgeous.@Saltwater60 you were in the neighborhood and no one called an impromptu meeting

Your bio says “from” Livingston so I’m guessing you moved out of state!?!
