A disaster will be coming mid-week next week and the overnight low will be 24 by me. This will kill any stone fruit blossom, most mast fruit blossom, and I figure plenty of my raspberry and blackberry buds if they are starting. Plenty is leafing out in my yard.

New projection is 21 for two nights next week and many cold nights sub freezing next week. I just took a bunch of leaves and covered the many new hydrangea shoots I have coming up. This will be a blood bath for me in many ways.That’s great. Of course My peach tree is loaded with buds this year.
The blue berry buds are cracking open
Blackberries and raspberries are leaked out
New plum tree has lots of buds swelling, apple tree buds are opening.
Rose bushes are leafing out, hydrangeas are opening up like crazy and many were just planted last fall as in $100’s of dollars worth. I have many other perennials popping up that don’t take kindly to getting frozen out. There are some things I can do to mitigate it but I can’t save it all.

When it comes to a green thumb my wife’s is brown. LoL
Actually, to be fair she does really well in the vegetable garden but when it comes to flowers , not so well. House plants , forget about it.

I know that there are those breathable frost bags out there in Various sizes , from single plant size to larger ones that cover multiple flower / shrubs. Those might help to stave off the frost. I use old white cotton sheets to cover my blueberries and other stuff. I don’t really care what it looks like as long as it saves my plants.

She left everything out in a crazy thunderstorm. I didn't need all of them, but now it's too late to start new tomatoes and peppers. Even if I wanted to buy starts from someone, nobody is going to have all these heirloom varieties.
This is the Ministry Of Plenty Farm, so loss is opportunity I guess.

My wife isn’t great either but she’s getting better and has been offering to help me and that I like. She helped me a lot last year I I really enjoyed her company and it makes me feel like others are vested especially with the veggie garden. Flower garden doesn’t matter too much to me because it’s generally a one and done for the season and not much upkeep for me throughout the year. I pluck a few weeds and do a bit of trimming here or there and that’s about it. I need help harvesting produce is what I really needs. Kids help here and there too. My oldest wants to be involved but when it comes time I at the best. He harvests for me though and that’s all I really need.

I’ll bet you could restart now and get something out of it. I’m sorry for this honestly I am. At least give it a try. Right now in NYS im just starting my indoor seeds and I’ll bet your warmer into the fall so I’ll bet you’d get something out of it. Don’t give up!!

Great idea and as always thanks for the advice. I bought 21 of them some smaller some larger. That should allow me to cover the hydrangeas, BB’s and some rose bushes. Won’t allow me to do it all but that’s life.

You have plenty of time, here in the Hudson valley I don’t start anything untill april5 then I reseed tomatoes and peppers may 10 then one last tomato planting albeit a small one june 5

Seeds are doing great. Fig tree is growing like crazy and I’m getting a bit excited for spring when it arrives. Pepper plants are growing slow but they are not getting their second set of leaves. Now I see why they said to start them 3 months before last frost date. Broccoli popped up in three days and I was surprised by that.

What kind of fig tree did you get? I think that you posted it somewhere but I didn’t go back to far to look . Mine is a Marseilles fig.

I bought the Chicago hardy fig tree and it’s supposed to be able to over winter here. I bought it in a box from Lowes as a dormant tree for $10

I had gotten one of those last year and it was doing well but I stupidly removed the chicken wire protecting it to do some weeding and left it off over night and the rabbits chewed it to the ground.

I seriously hate rabbits and squirrels. They are my biggest problem for sure. I bought some black painted wire tree protectors from Amazon since they look much nicer and can be zip tied together to make the size I need. I hate doing it but you have to. Also these tree protectors are sturdier than chicken wire and shorter at about 18” so I could remove them or weed inside of them I like chicken wire. Of course they are more expensive and I use chicken wire as well.
It’s growing well and I hope the critters leave it alone. I may pot it and move it into my garage for the winter along with the pomegranate tree I bought.

When are you all planting your potatoes. They say as soon as the ground can be worked and when it’s about 45F. I just pulled mine from my bags and I may plant them in a week or two after they get some growth on them. A few have already grown well in the bag and have 4-5” spike coming up. I’m doing them in raised bags that are black so the soil should warm up quickly.

Seeds are growing really well and so far I’m pleased. I can tell you the seeds that I put some worm co post in have grown much larger much faster so I’m sold on it and I will keep doing it.
Everything I have planted so far has come up and is doing well. My fig tree is growing well and getting new leaves. I would like to get another light next year and expand it a bit. I think the additional light will make it so I do t need to turn the seeds as much.

Mines about a foot tall and has been growing here and there throughout the winter. Tips got a bit damaged but I’m hoping it does well and isn’t small.
