Hmm never thought about grow bags did raised beds instead. Did potatoes in the grow bags last summer.

Grow bags were way cheaper and easier than raised beds. I think I’m in for $60 for all ten 20 and 25 grow bags I bought. I had been building up the soil in that area for the last two years so I only have about $80 in soil. So all that was about $150 and I couldn’t buy cedar for one raised bed for that price. I just did a raised bed for my mother in law and it was $400-$450 for the materials alone. Plus there’s a lot of waisted space/soli in traditional raised beds so the in between space isn’t money waisted it’s just there for me. These grow bags can also be easily moved around as well. This will be my first year with them but people rave about them.
Yea they were $6 per bag and they are 16.5” high so they rabbits can’t eat my crap. That was my main goal.

We use a water wheel planter that pokes a hole in the plastic and ground underneath bit every clove is put in by hand by riding on the back of said planter, then covered by hand by someone else walking behind and reaching into the hole and pulling dirt over the clove. Hardneck garlic needs to be pointing up otherwise the stem hooks around and sometimes comes up under the plastic which is no good. I plant at the end of October.

That’s crazy it’s that much hand work. How long do their hands smell for after they put each clove in the planter?
I get sick of planting what I plant. Harvesting is even worse. I get my wife and kids, well kid to help even just in my little plot I have. I get so much basil and so many tomatoes I do t know what to do with all of them. I still have some of them and peppers in my freezer from last growing season. I’m not sure why but I expanded this year for some reason. I think I will set up a little food pantry on my porch or donate some to my church for the poor or another group we’re associated with. Fresh produce can be hard to come by.

I have started to fertilize more because I wasn’t getting much growth out of my seedlings and they have grown more in a week or so than the last month. I’m going to keep fertilizing more since I’m using an organic fertilizer that’s a liquid and I think it’s pretty weak.

Planting doesn’t really make your hands smell. Cutting the scapes does tho. That’s all I can smell for about two weeks when we’re doing that job

I’m amazed at how clean you keep everything. That’s amazing.
My garlic is over a foot tall now so I should have scapes soonish I figure. My sweet peas popped out of the ground too. I planted carrots the other day and started my irrigations lines this week. I’m kind of excited for this growing season.

I didn’t send them myself I sold them to a re-wholesaler. I don’t have those connections (and don’t want them tbh)

I have started to harden off some more hardy plants that I started from seed to mess with and see what would happen. I started to harden off Irish moss, lettuce, my hardy fig, and some newly sprouted spinach. The spinach just sprouted a few days ago so I just tossed some in the garden to see what would happen. Last year my spinach sprouted and died. I think the rabbit got it or we had heavy rain as it was just germinating and the big rain drops trashed it. I put two plugs out to see what they do and I’ll go from there. I have about 10 more plugs of the spinach and some more seeds left so if these two die then so be it. If in 3-4 days these look ok and have shown some growth I’ll toss the others in the garden. I’ll be happy to move some seedlings outside to free up my inside burden. I have irrigation outside and I can shut off the sprinklers to the empty grow bags until the more sensitive plants go outside. I think I’ll like the new irrigation system.

My peppers are looking a bit yellow so I got some water soluble fertilizer because I’ve been fighting it for a few weeks now. They are growing but slowly so I’m hoping this speeds them up. I have two sets of full leaves so I’m not worried about it. I’ve also started to use rainwater that I collected for my seedlings because my water is hard and has a high oh so I figure that might be the cause for the low nitrogen.

I think I figured out I was watering a few of the seedlings too much. The larger seedlings in the small plastic trays were not drying out. I have them dried out now and planted into mesh pots or peat pots and they dry out much faster. First time doing seeds but I’m a bit disappointed in myself since it stunted their growth a lot and yellowed the leaves. They are coming back slowly but the roots are small now since I think some rotted off. Live and learn I guess.

Anyone selling a slightly used slave-bot that was built and programmed specifically for gardening?
I'm in this weird spot, mostly due to time constraints, where manual work is overwhelming but mechanical isn't quite justifiable.
I was hoping to plant several hundred onions after I finish this tray of asparagus today, but I will probably have to go to work instead.

Yes you are going big and that takes big time. I was wondering how this would work out for you. That’s a lot of ground to plant, weed and harvest. I hope you have an irrigation system set up too. Good luck to you.

Both. I put 150-200 sets in the ground, probably 6 weeks ago, but started several hundred seeds indoors before that. Now its time to transplant the seedlings.
No real reason for the decision other than I have a massive garden I'm trying to fill and want to grow a years worth of food.
Seeds are cheap and indoor space isn't an issue, plus, what else can you plant in Jan/Feb?
I'm just an anti-government extremist pretending (learning) to be a farmer, so I'm probably better suited to advising others what NOT to do.

No irrigation yet. It's going to cost a few bucks, so my first crazy water bill is likely what will push me to do it. I have a drilled well of unknown condition that I hope to be able to use for the farm stuff.

Just send it out and have the water tested for salts and heavy metals. Salts will kill the plants and heavy metals will kill you.

My blueberry bushes are loaded with fruit. I have some new bushes to plant this week. Nourse Farms - great company for berry plants/bushes, and excellent prices compared to big box, stark bros, Johnny's, etc.

I get it man. Don’t kill yourself. Id do some tests to see what performs well and does well for you. If it doesn’t do well then move it along and put your efforts elsewhere.
Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and basil are super intensive to harvest. I felt like keeping on top of my basil last year was a part time job.

My stuff is doing fairly well. Potatoes are growing now that it’s warmed up, peas look good, carrots sprouting, lettuce is growing well, and so is the spinach. My tomato plants are growing well and my bell peppers are getting green again and sprouting new leaves. My banana peppers are growing well but still small. Fig tree is going crazy and my pomegranate is starting to grow well. Everything else looks pretty good to me.
Next year I need to get another grow light and get more space. I need to start a few things earlier and repot them to larger pots earlier in some cases. It’s amazing the root structure a 1.5” tomato plant can have.

this is what the grocery store is trying to pass off for over 3 bucks a pound ..
i seen this bulk box of beans and i was like WTF are you kidding me ..
shit even making them into pickles i don't think the pickle crisp will stiffen them up any even if you used the whole damn jar .

I started messing with my well last night. I'm going to have to pull the pump. I can see water in the casing, and it swirls around when the pump is turned on. There isn't a tank/pressure switch installed, and the supply pipe is just cut off where it comes through the basement wall.

My garden does great and I have grown things in dirt for years and years now. It’s all about soil health, water and fertilizing at the appropriate time. Need good soil to start with and a lot of it around here is junk so I make my own and there’s always something to learn. I’m not perfect nor an expert but I’m pretty good. I always have a few flops every year and I’m going more than I ever have this year so I expect more than ever but that’s life and what’s fun.

Here’s my seedlings today. They are looking good IMO but I will plant a few next year a bit earlier and I need more room for next year. bell Peppers have buds forming so I’ll pinch them off. I should have started my other tomatoes earlier and my jimmy nardello peppers are really small. Outside of that I’m very pleased. The jimmy nardello peppers are smaller and they are starting to take off so maybe they will be fine. Also the jersey breeze tomatoes are taking off this week so I think they will be fine.
The one picture is the same tomatoes planted on the same date and treated the same. Ones 10 times the size it’s so crazy. I followed the directions on the seeds and if it was 8-10 weeks prior to the last frost I did 10 weeks plus a few days to a week so they shouldn’t be small. I probably overwatered them at first so I’m sure that delayed them. I also should have transplanted to a larger pot size a bit earlier as well. Love and learn and this is my first time doing veggie seeds.
