With the latesest tax bill, an 40% increase over last years due to Star not there (yet?), the time has come to seriously look elsewhere. Need input on Kentucky, Tennessee or the Carolinas. Retirement in a year or so....
why?well, if you're going to Carolina's, I'd wait a week or two before heading down there. I have a feeling property values are about to drop a tad.
why?

TN is a very nice place and still has seasons. We chose Tennessee, as the cost of living is very reasonable, and taxes are very low. We bought a home and some acreage earlier this year on the Cumberland Plateau, which has four seasons, but the winters are mild, and the summers aren't too hot. For example, the day after Labor Day I had to take my wife to the airport in Nashville. The temperature at home was 66 degrees at 4:30 a.m., when we arrived at Nashville at 6:00 a.m., the temperature was already 81 degrees. The gun culture is alive and well in Tennessee, and there's no State income tax. We'll be moving down there permanently in 2019, once I retire, and I can't wait! In the mean time we're shuttling our stuff down there. I'm looking forward to avoiding subzero Adirondack winters.
Excellent info. Thank you all. Just gotta get a chance to go look. Any campground recommendations?
