Heard something today about NYS residents have to keep their guns in a fireproof/secure safe ? Is this true ?
Fireproof and fire resistant are two very different things IMO. Anything metal is fire resistant but fireproof means something very specific. This is all a joke. I get it lock your gun in your car, I have a cable tied lockbox in my truck. How do you do this with a long gun?Sure does

Someone from the Commissioner's office of Bills and Legislation early in this process indicated verbiage from CA laws were likely just cut and pasted. CA DoJ apparently has more detailed requirements that were not identified in NY but most commercially available gun vaults / cabinets / safes meet the CA DoJ requirements. Sounds like lazy and sleezy SoB NY politicians, staff, and lobbyists to me.Fireproof and fire resistant are two very different things IMO. Thanks for posting and clarifying and I see they just provide all these specifics for safe depository and don’t single out cars and homes.
From the NYSP FAQ:My understanding from a local FFL:
When off person & transported / stored in vehicle:
Lockable
Fireproof
Permanently affixed to vehicle (bolts or cable)
Non visible
Applies to ALL firearms including long guns and shotguns.

From the NYSP FAQ:
Q29) How does the new law impact transporting guns in a vehicle?
A) Effective September 1, 2022, if you leave your gun unattended in a vehicle, it must be unloaded and locked in a fire, impact, and tamper resistant storage depository that is hidden from view. Glove compartments and glove boxes are not appropriate safe storage depositories. A plastic or aluminum, lockable, hard-sided, gun case or safe will suffice for this purpose.
If an adult remains with the vehicle to ensure security, a case or safe is not required. To prevent theft and ensure safety, it is always recommended that firearms be secured during transport. Local rules for traveling with firearms also apply and may be more restrictive. For example, New York City requires that all guns be unloaded, in a case, and out of sight, even when you are with the vehicle (Penal Law § 265.45).
Q30) How am I required to store my guns in my home?
A) If anyone younger than 18 years old or anyone who is prohibited from possessing a gun resides in the home, all firearms, rifles, and shotguns not in your immediate control must either be: • secured with a gun locking device (trigger lock or cable lock) that makes them incapable of being accessed or fired by the prohibited individual, or • locked securely in a safe or secure container that is fire, impact, and tamper resistant and which is locked using a key, keypad, or combination.
I keep some hanging in holsters in a closet, some hanging by sling on doors, FUCK YOU HOCHUL YOU IDIOT BITCH CUNT!!!
Criticism of public officials, including those that are vulgar has been several times confirmed by courts as protected speech under the First Amendment.
The part I" if you leave your gun unattended in a vehicle, it must be unloaded and locked in a fire, impact, and tamper resistant storage depository that is hidden from view"
how do you hide your car or truck ??
isn't a car or truck a locked fire, impact and tamper resistant storage depository ?
LOL

I'll double check with Lawguns, but I believe that was their take on it as well from NYS police. Anything metal was considered "fire resistant," but I will confirm since I don't feel confident in my memory here.Fireproof and fire resistant are two very different things IMO. My brother inlaw sold high end jewelry . Carried 1 million + at times. Only way it was insured is secured in the trunk by a safe, log chain and lock ... When it left the car .. sorry no insurance ...
Read the reviews and not great on this model. posted ...I do know they laid many people off at some point. Could be workers posting bad reviews.

Driving with my rifle and muzzle loader on the front seat is still good to go. Hunting season soon!
I'm wondering with the confusion over how these laws will be implemented, will every business have to post a sign saying guns welcome or no guns allowed ?
They will have to post a sign stating conceal carry is allowed or the default position now is that it is not allowed. No sign is needed to prevent CC.I'm wondering with the confusion over how these laws will be implemented, will every business have to post a sign saying guns welcome or no guns allowed ?
seeing how you’re from Rochester I doubt you will see many signs. Maybe some gun stores, hunting and fishing stores and a few restaurants if they don’t serve alcohol.I'm wondering with the confusion over how these laws will be implemented, will every business have to post a sign saying guns welcome or no guns allowed ?
