No one blamed the gun not even Alvin. Some, of course, argue the carry of a loaded glock.
Well if you know him give him my best wishes for as speedy and complete a recovery as is possible.
I would simply argue for the carry of such in the proper holster but thats as may be at this point unfortunately.

There was a pic of his gun room also. I doubt he'll stop carrying. I only know him thru the forum. Into firearms his whole life and 1st posted the event from his hospital bed. He wanted to show his fellow firearms enthusiasts and tell all to be safe. Hell of a man. I wouldn't be concerned about posting ...at least for a few days.

Holy crap!
I'm petrified of putting any pistol into a pocket without a holster that covers the entire trigger guard and breaks up the silhouette of the pistol. You know...something like this:

That looks like it was a nasty wound. Those pictures were clearly taken at the bedside. The wound was probably left open in order to allow dressing changes and monitoring for infection. There was probably too much swelling to allow for a primary closure. He probably had substantial vascular compromise as a result of the severe trauma. If, as someone mentioned, the patient also has diabetes...the odds of a poor outcome increase substantially (due to microvascular issues and problems with healing). The story did not mention necrotizing fasciitis. But, it wouldn't take much supposition to believe that could have been an issue.
On the bright side, he shot himself lower in the leg and not in his pelvis. So, he was able to avoid dying from bleeding out before help got to him.
I'm not very keen on that either. Trigger activation through soft sided holsters happens as well. I'd only use rigid, blocked leather or kydex or similar.Holy crap!

I carry that DeSantis Supafly when I pocket carry. You'd be very hard pressed to activate the trigger in the holster.

Personally, I don't see how a trigger could be activated through a Desantis holster. They are not made of cloth. I'll have to try dry firing a pistol that is holstered in one. I'll report back.
Is the one that was posted rigid? I hace read a few stories of firearms discharging in the holster beacuse something outside gotnpressed intonthe trigger guard.

You are correct in that they are soft-sided holsters. But, they do not seem to have enough play to allow something to get pushed into the trigger for activation.

Understood, however it's a perfectly safe gun to carry with the proper method.
This unfortunate example should be a good lesson for anyone to not carry a gun in your pocket without having some sort of guard around the trigger.
The Striker Fired Glock design is a completely safe and reliable system, it's quite simple and effective, and it will not fire unless the trigger is engaged

I tried to dry fire a Glock 43 from within a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster. I couldn't do it. I still would never put anything else in a pocket with a pistol which would introduce the risk of something snagging the trigger from within the holster.
I cant seem to find the story but I'll keep looking, in the meantime I read this report of a guy pocket carrying in a holster similar to the one you posted. He was working on his car when his gun discharged. The explanation being was the trigger was depressed thorugh the holster while he was leanning and reaching over the engine bay.

The guy who shot him self said he was afraid to carry a glock. His fear was reasonable when carrying it with just that clip thing. Here is a company that sells the clips and they offer trigger guards but do issue a warning about carrying with one in the pipe. Thats lame!! Best Glock Concealed Carry Holster Clip
It doesnt look like they even offer a trigger cover for the j-frames so the company knows better. I know that many will say a j-frame is unsafe without a trigger guard but its nothing like a Glock. I tried to dry fire my j-frame through my pants pocket and could not do it, my Glock no problem at all. For the record I do use a pocket holster because without it the gun can rotate.
Accidents can happen to anyone, and I dont want to bash this guy because he is trying to help make sure it want happen to other people. So, this is a good discussion for everyone to think about their own practices.
I might be a little bit of a nervous Nelly but when I get new holsters I ware it around with the pistol empty and try to induce a accidental discharge. I figure if I cant make it fail my chances of a problem are greatly reduced.

This is what derp looks like. Don’t derp. It can get you killed... I’m willing to bet that if this guy was asked to get into some training he would have said “I’ve been shooting since I was 7. I don’t need training.”
I understand that the civilian enthusiasts, and LEO/Military to some degree, have started to trend towards affordable, reliable, striker-fired pistols (hence why Glocks are so popular). I just can't ever see myself carrying a hot one that lacks an external safety for this very reason. There is a whole lot of risk and very few ways to mitigate it, especially when holstering and unholstering. You can practice the safety fundamentals your entire life, but it just takes just one momentary lapse of awareness to have a life-altering event.
I'm not passing judgement on this particular fellow as I don't know him. And to be honest, it could have been much worse. With this new, and hopefully temporary, trend of IWB and appendix carry, I will not be surprised to see ND's that cause injuries which are far worse, perhaps even fatal.
For the foreseeable future, I'm sticking with DA/SA pistols with an external hammer that I can physically/visually check, especially during re-holster.

Well I won't speak for you, but in my view: yes, castration is much worse than losing a leg. I do my best to keep a pistol oriented in a safe direction, but if I have to choose between flagging my junk and flagging the side of my leg during a reholster, the choice is a no-brainer for me.
Also, your femoral artery is in that same region. You get shot in the side of the leg, you still have a decent chance of survival, as this fellow proved. You get shot in your groin area, you risk a fairly quick death unless your or someone close to you can stymie the bleeding and get you to hospital very quickly.
