Organized, especially totalitarian, governments were the agents of the most civilian deaths in the 20th century.Thanks for the reference, I had no idea about those texts from Gandhi. But I second your words, I do believe that guns in the hands of the good man are the only way to stop evil. It's just that I don't think that those are everybody's hands.

We do not have communal punishment in this country. We have due process with regards to depriving someone of their constitutional rights.I feel like this can become a philosophic thread
How can we know if someone "is" evil, or bad people, so he/she shouldn't have access to guns? Many times people responsible for mass shootings had no criminal history. My opinion is that we all, depending on the circumstances, can become evil and want to really injure someone. But if we don't have an easy access to a firearm, it would be harder to commit that crime.
If you would take some time to research mass shooters you would find that it is the opposite, there were warning signs that were ignored. The fact is 90%+ of the people here in the States, and even world wide, are decent and good people. Leaving our Islam of course lol. You're happy with punishing the many because of the few? Would it be right to do the same with social media, or the internet in general, because of the few who cause problems there and lead to other's suicides? I'm sure people like you would be up in arms so to say, if that happened. We don't base what we do on a law abiding citizen that has the ability to become bad. We don't presume guilt beforehand. If someone is proven evil and defective currently, that's a different story. It's called freedom and due process. Bottom line is this. This country is different from many others. Is it perfect? Nope. In saying that, this is how we do what we do and there are reasons for it that are obviously foreign to you. I would appreciate it though if you would stop projecting your "philosophy" on us here in this country. I and many in this country have zero desire to change based in what you believe to be right. Oh, 911, the largest mass murder in US history was carried with box cutters, not guns. If the people on board the plane were armed , the hijackings would not have taken place. or at least would have failed. The people on board did exactly as your New Zealand cop advised,Nothing. and as a result of doing nothing 3000 people died .
As a result of 911, the US placed armed air marshals on board planes . the US hasn't had a single hijacking since.

$HIT, from my cheap seats it is obvious he either never fully read nor mostly undetstood what we actually posted in response to his queries except for an occasional sentence he uses to justify drafting another post that he apparently enjoys reading in their self serving entirety.Why do we continue to try to educate someone who clearly hasn't taken a moment to research, read, study any of the documents or sources he has been provided. He has no cultural context on the US Constitution or the Bill of Rights. I can excuse that as he is not native to this country but he clearly has done ZERO research on anything he's been told. I started this rodeo thinking that maybe, just maybe OP was interested in facts and not creating a hit piece. Enough already.
