With as few perm bans as there are on this forum, several of them (hard to say how many because those people started numerous aliases) are from people who made up and posted hoaxes about having their guns taken away or very similar things. We have enough actual problems with the state of NY and it's gun laws without making shit up. It does a massive disservice to gun owners to be 'crying wolf' with fake stories because they think it's funny or it's just a scenario they want to present because it 'could happen' (that's usually the excuse).

Your friend ought to have a field day with this bullshit, if he's willing to fight it and pay for a quality attorney. Religious headgear is pretty routinely found to be protected by the first amendment.

You could argue that Pastafarianism is a fake religion, but I'd like to point out that peaceful protest and civil disobedience in the face of government-sponsored religious favoritism is as American as it gets. Constitution, motherfucker!

Headgear exemptions are for people whose sincerely-held faith requires them to wear it at all times, not for people who don them occasionally as a gag. The fact that you’ve seen some stupid Pastafarian bumper sticker does not mean that anyone sincerely wears a colander on their head everywhere they go in public. Not a serious statement. No one’s provided evidence that this supposed case exists in the first place, but it’s obviously frivolous if it’s not a hoax or a joke.

The original poster here is lying, there is no “friend”, it’s him. I remembered a post from several weeks ago about him going to NY and he had some ludicrous story about how after the office initially told him he couldn’t wear it in the photo and he had them call the judge and he okayed it (yeah right). Whole thing screamed of bullshit from the start so it stuck out in my mind.

Went back to look at the post to confirm and sure enough, he edited it on Wednesday to remove his whole story, but you can still tell he brought it up because there’s a reply with a colander in a license picture right after it. Nice try, but we’re not idiots here.

Sounds more like what happened is you went into the pistol permit office and made a huge stink, all for a stupid troll. As if we don’t have enough 2a problems here in NY.

Since every religion is technically a "man made" religion the butt hurt karens in here should have no problem with any and all restrictions upon them being perfectly fine. Right?
so what is the criteria for a religion to be "real" or "fake"? How long people have fallen for the b.s.? How many people have fallen for the b.s.? or how about how many people it has FORCED to swear fealty to it at swordpoint?
We might as well just erase the 1st amendment then. we don't need it.
I'm sure NY would be thrilled to get their fingers in the overflowing coffers of some of these scams. Seriously, seeing a very expensive building with a bunch of rusted out pickup trucks in the lot, but the guy who runs it driving a beemer... there's obviously something shady going on that involves lots and lots of money.

On a more serious note: You may scoff at what you call a "fake religion" but the protections in place here that you feel are only being used so someone can thumb their nose at "the man" are the same protections that allow YOU to worship as YOU see fit.
You may see it as diluting the power of these protections, or risking them being thrown away altogether, but this is not true.
When you open the door to "not a real religion" you open the door for YOUR religion to be declared not real. And against an oppressive government who has systematically shown they don't give two shits about our Rights, you should welcome anyone who can get court reinforcement for the Rights YOU enjoy.

The funny part is that no one actually looks into what is going on. It's not actually a club about satan. It's advocating for the first amendment and MANY other things most on here would agree with. No one group or religion should have a monopoly on free speech and right to worship. Accept them all or accept none.

The First Amendment isn't there to protect popular, accepted, polite speech/religion/journalism. That doesn't need to be protected. It protects the trolls, the bullshit religions, and the fringe journalism.

The Second Amendment isn't there to protect the guns that the government/left-wing urinalists deem "safe" and "non-threatening". It protects our right to own "scarwee" black rifles and standard capacity Glocks as much as dad's Detective Special and grandpa's single-shot shotgun.

Edit: That means holding them to the same standard. If Jews, Muslims, and Sikhs can wear headgear in license photos, so can Pastafaris. If COVIDians can wear masks, then Muslim women can wear full burqas. If Muslim women can't wear full burqas that don't allow their faces to be seen in a photo, then neither can COVIDians.

It sounds to me how Christian’s were treated during the time if the Romans. Ones persons religion should not affect another’s. We claim we are enlightened and want to be left alone to our wants and needs. Lay off the man if he wants to wear a colander what does it affect you!?! People gotta lighten up.
