What is the correct choice of choke for home defense 12 gauge 18.5 barrel 00 buck?

That would be cylinder size, so yes your fine. You just don’t want anything too restrictive with a slug. Also IMO your better off with buck shot than a slug and you can always mix them.
Just an FYI since I bought some of those mini shells because I thought it was a cool idea and my gun will not cycle them. They jam up every time because the shell length is too short.

What shotgun are you working with?
I know the Benelli’s are finicky with types of shells or any auto loader for that matter. Leads to my next question, best 00 loads that will cycle my Benelli (recoil doesn’t matter to me) 2 3/4 of course to keep max capacity.

Shitty time for me to throw this advice out there, but try a bunch of different types to see how they pattern from damn near muzzle distance to the longest distance you have in the house or where you think you may need it. I found a huge difference in different types of ammo. What works for me and I would recommend is Federal with Flitecontrol wads. Scary tight pattern in my shotgun. That assumes is patterns acceptable in your shotgun of choice.

Was going to mention Flitecontrol as well. I prefer #1 over #00 though. The pellets are slightly smaller, but there's 15 instead of 9. Creates those extra wound channels for better stopping power.

It was a mossberg 500 pump shotgun. It won’t cycle them worth a shit. Maybe I’ll try my semi auto, but that’s a 20 gauge and I have not seen 20 gauge mini shells. Not sure they make them.

Totally informative video. I watched a lot of stuff on these guys channel but never saw this one. These guys live the dream. Shoot with everything, shoot at anything and no regard for nothing. Nice to have have sponsors.

Patterned a lot of 12 ga. - with an open choke, - found my favorite to be No. 4 buck for home distances, just saying. Haven't tried the Federal Flite control.

The adapter works well in my 500. But, then you are stuck with the mini shells unless you remove the adapter. It’s easy but not instant.

With the 00 there is the 9 pellet phenomenon where the 9th can wildly go off target. So get 8 pellet if you care about it that much. And good luck finding any flight control 00.
No choke aka cylinder bore. Rule of thumb is 1" of spread for every yard so @ 20 yards your pattern will be about the same diameter as a typical dinner plate.

Not necessarily. You want all the projectiles to contact the target. Don't need any strays hitting friendlies. Federal Flitecontrol is designed to keep the pattern extremely tight. Once the projectiles make contact with the target, each one will veer off inside and create its own would channel.

At those distances it makes no difference and if one has internal threads like most designs do, one should put a cylinder or skeet1 that do not constrict any kind of load and protect the threads.
The load choice has more impact in how it behaves than anything else at those distances.
Some of those hd disks and buck mixed loads open up much faster than the typical buck load.
I think a more important consideration might be to have a reliable autoloader vs a pump that is a lot more effective for defense.

you should find the greatest distance you would be shooting inside your home in a defensive situation. Then take your shotty to the range and pattern it at that distance with your HD ammo and a few different chokes. Find which patterns the best and use that choke
