Honest Question About Revolvers

Why for carry? I'm curious on why anyone would make that choice.

I get the whole," Because I want to that's why!" I also get the whole, "It's a collector's piece or I like how it looks."

So why for carry when criminals who are armed will be better armed than you?

The way I see it, a revolver is a relic. There are an extremely low number of police agencies and militaries that will issue it to their officers or soldiers due to it's low capacity and clumsy reloading ability.

I've heard that too yet there are semi autos that'll fire under almost any conditions so that negates that point in my book.

I have a few. I carry a snubby .357 when walking the dog. Nice nd small, fits in any pocket and has a great wollop.

I think one of the only compelling reasons I've heard is the ability to pull the trigger again and fire after a dud round.

Oh and what GOPerfect mentioned: a heavy hitting round in a subcompact.

A Kahr Pm9 is even smaller than a revolver. The wollup on a human body is non-existent if expands and stops where it's supposed to as designed. (12-18 inches)

Then you have the recoil issue that you don't have with a Semiautomatic.

I carried a revolver for 5 years before I started carrying a 1911. The reason: that was the gun that I owned. The revolver was/is the simplest gun to operate, low failure/stoppage rates and plenty of ammo choices in different power levels to suit all ages/abilities of people. They don't require much if any maintenance. A stainless steel revolver can sit on your hip or in a drawer for decades without ever needing more than a dusting off.

I haven't carried a revolver for a few years but that doesn't mean I wouldn't if I felt it would be more adequate than the 1911 I carry now.

I do not like Kahr. The 357 Snub just seems like a great choice for a Dog Walking gun.

I am not a huge fan of wheel guns, they do serve a purpose.

also as nortatogo stated strength to operate the equipment is another consideration. My Grandfather before he died at 93 would carry a revolver because he could not rack a slide.

In the 70s and early 80s all army air crewmembers were issued revolvers because they could be operated with one hand if required. Injuries during crash sequence was the greatest driving force in the decision to arm with a revolver. In 84 when we adopted the Beretta the ammo and magazine interchangeability over rode the injury considerations. I was issued and carried a revolver up until 1987.

I hear that S&W have to make his triggers even heavier then standard models. The normal trigger springs can't keep up with his fingers!!

I carry a .357 in the woods. Bears are generally lightly armed and don't carry hi-cap mags. My biggest horsepower gun. My first two shots are actually birdshot (for snakes) followed by 4 rounds of 158gr JSP. I have a 3" Ruger. Hiking/camping gun.

1. The revolver is a lot less expensive than my 1911 was. So if I use it to defend myself and it has to sit in an evidence locker for a long time, I won't feel so bad.

2. I can grab it and go walk the dog without a lot of fuss.

3. It's lighter even when fully loaded.

4. It increases my bad ass-ery feel by 38%

I tend to be more accurate with a revolver, I hunt with mine so I like the feel and the weight. I don't carry it everyday, but I do carry it a lot after Sept 1st, during hunting season

Love the look and feel of my GP100 bit too big to hide without a coat. My Kahr is a nice plain looking shooter.

If you have a high primer, cylinder may not rotate. It pays to inspect ammo as you load cylinders and magazines.

I still didnt say never. I havent experienced jams in some of my semi autos, but in due time.
